Pieter (Mr. "G") Geerkens

Centre Director
In his earlier life “Mr. G.” earned a B.Sc. in Physics with minors in Math and Electronics; then worked as a software developer for 35 years. He has been passionate about mathematics since discovering the daily Fun With Figures in the newspaper at age 10. His love for math puzzles continues to this day, and he was thrilled to be credited in the Daily Epsilon of Math Calendar as a puzzle contributor in both 2022 and 2023. “Mr. G’.” has helped classmates and colleagues with their math since grade school; and is credited by many for a substantial improvement in their grades. He brings the same enthusiasm to his work at Mathnasium, hoping to share some of his love for the subject with students as they develop increased mathematical confidence and skill. “Mr. G’.” joined us in February 2021 as an Instructor, completed his training through Assistant Centre Director in September that year, and was promoted to Centre Director in January 2023.

Zainab Shaikh

Level 2 Instructor
Zainab's journey as a tutor stems from her genuine love for working with children and her passion for mathematics and chemistry. Recognizing the transformative power of education, Zainab found great joy in helping young learners unlock their potential and achieve academic success. She thrives on witnessing the "aha" moments when students grasp challenging concepts and develop a newfound confidence in their abilities. Zainab's patient and compassionate approach allows her to tailor her teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring that they feel valued and understood.

Abdullah Shahid

Level 2 Instructor
In high school, Abdullah discovered his passion for tutoring while helping fellow classmates with their math assignments. Recognizing the value of collaboration and peer support, he offered knowledge and guidance to help his colleagues understand the concepts they were studying. As a tutor, Abdullah brought an expertise in mathematics and also a natural ability to connect with peers. He created a welcoming and inclusive environment, fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. His willingness to go the extra mile, patiently explaining difficult concepts and providing additional practice materials, greatly contributed to the academic success of those he tutored. Abdullah is also deeply passionate about reading and problem solving. He believes these pursuits complement his mathematical endeavors, fostering critical thinking skills and expanding his intellectual horizons

Cameron Johnson

Instructor
After working in IT for a short period of time, Cameron achieved a B.Sc with honours in Mathematics and Statistics. He believes that mathematics is a core component in understanding how the world and universe operate and that everyone requires some knowledge of mathematics to understand the world around them. Cameron thinks that it is possible for anyone and everyone to “get” math, and anyone who claims that they “just aren’t a math person” just had the wrong teachers growing up. Cameron has a history of tutoring fellow classmates, as well as working as a professional tutor. He has converted those who think they have no hope in math into those who think math is pretty cool and is looking forward to helping more and more people. He joined us in the Summer of 2023, and is going to typically be running online sessions for Mathnasium moving on.
