Mathnasium@home Tips for students

Mar 21, 2020 | Hamilton Mountain

Thank you for becoming a member of the Mathnasium@home family. The following tips and suggestions are provided to maximize the benefits of your student’s face-to-face instruction via Mathnasium@home

Internet Connection

  • Ensure your computer has a solid Internet connection. If your computer can be plugged directly into your home’s modem or router, that will provide the fastest experience. However, a room with a solid wi-fi connection generally will be sufficient. Trying to connect from a coffee shop or other public wi-fi will negatively impact the experience.

Student’s Set Up

  • We recommend any modern Windows or Apple laptop/desktop with a mouse.
  • We recommend using headphones with a noise canceling microphone. This will prevent “echoing” and ensure the instructor can properly hear the student and vice-versa.
  • The student should be in a quiet area free from background distractions and noise.
  • Currently, Mathnasium@home works best using Google Chrome web browser. If you are using another browser we have found that students may experience audio or video issues.
  • We recommend rebooting student's computer before the session.

Homework Help

  • If your student needs homework assistance, please ensure they have emailed a picture or PDF copy of it prior to their session so the instructor can have it loaded into the program. The email address is: [email protected]

Scheduling sessions

  • Mathnasium@home sessions must be scheduled online, at least three hours in advance via https://bookmathnasiumlesson.youcanbook.me
  • Recurring sessions cannot be scheduled online, but can be scheduled by calling 365-366-6284
  • If a scheduled session cannot be attended, please notify us as early as possible by emailing to [email protected], or texting at 365-366-6284

Session Experience

  • To start the session, open the following link in Google Chrome: https://mathnasium.craniumcafe.com/hamiltonmountainathomemathnasiumca/classroom
  • If a student is late logging in, their session end time cannot be changed or extended
  • Please do not provide additional instruction or give students answers. This may cause confusion for a student and impact their understanding of the material.
  • The instructor working with your student will be working with others. To ensure they provide the highest level of instruction for all students, please contact the center directly at 365-366-6284 with any questions. The instructor will not be able to relay information or engage in conversations.
