Meet the Team at Mathnasium of Nanaimo

Rachel

Meet Rachel Filko, centre director at Mathnasium Nanaimo. Having a lifelong passion for teaching, she earned her Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in instruction and curriculum. Coming from 6 years of tutoring and 5 years working as an Early Childhood Educator, she is excited to add her skills to the team. She believes that being able to connect with students and learn how they think is a key component in being able to provide beneficial instruction. Working with Mathnasium has provided Rachel with an outlet to not only use her skills as an educator, but also draws on her background in management. She considers herself a lifelong learner and is a big believer in the growth mindset. In her free time, Rachel enjoys exploring the outdoors, hanging out with friends and family, and finding her next favorite book.

Bruce

Bruce is an avid mathematician who is pursuing a degree in mathematics in VIU. He looks forward to each session with new questions and answers for the students to come and has some prior experience in private tutoring. He is one of the first instructors to join the new establishment and has completed AP studies in both Mathematics and science. He is also a programmer and has programmed several games and created a few websites. In the world of music he plays the guitar, drums and piano.

Deepa

Deepa born and bought up in India, passionate math instructor currently pursuing a Master's in Education at Vancouver Island University, with a solid foundation in both education and statistics. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education, honing pedagogical skills, and a Bachelor's in Statistics, providing a unique blend of analytical expertise .Her passion and career goal aligns both in teaching and assisting people.

Siddarth

Siddarth is a student at the University of British Columbia hoping to major in Computer Science. He loves coding, physics, and of course, mathematics. Outside the classroom, he plays the guitar, loves to skateboard, and can solve the rubix cube in under 20 seconds (beat that!).

Suleman

Welcome to the world of mathematics with Suleman, your dedicated math instructor! Currently pursuing his Master's in Business Administration at Vancouver Island University and armed with a Bachelor's degree in Business, Suleman understands the pivotal role mathematics plays in academic success. Beyond his academic achievements, Suleman has engaged with kids in diverse capacities, serving as a Resident Assistant for students. This hands-on experience has equipped him with the skills to effectively communicate mathematical concepts to learners of all ages. Outside the realm of numbers, Suleman finds joy in reading books and indulges in strategic games like chess. Additionally, his enthusiasm extends to the sports arena, where he enjoys playing table tennis and basketball.
