Renji Kurup, Owner and Center Director
Renji Kurup, the Owner and Center Director at Mathnasium of Collegeville, comes from a family of teachers. Her mom is a professor of Chemistry and her grandfather was a Math teacher. Before Mathnasium, she worked as a Project Manager in various industries including retail, financial services, architecture and commercial development. She firmly believes that she will be able to make a positive impact to the community of Collegeville and beyond by helping children reach their potential.
Mathnasium believes math is important in school and in life and she is fully committed to empowering each and every child who walks through the doors of this center. Her goal is to help children learn how to enjoy and excel at math, build their skills and confidence and open up opportunities for their future careers.
Dylan Shelly, Lead Instructor
Excellence in teaching has always been the goal that Dylan Shelly has striven to achieve. A 2013 graduate of Muhlenberg College, Dylan left university with a degree in both Mathematics and Theater. During his journey through college life, Dylan struggled with the modern way of teaching mathematics. With rigid professors and oftentimes boring lessons, Dylan knew that there must have been a better way to teach math. He went on to achieve his teaching certificate at Cabrini College in hopes of discovering a method that would really stimulate the minds of young students.
Later, he settled into Mathnasium as an Instructor. What started as just a day job quickly grew into a deep and profound love for the Mathnasium method and its ability to reach even the most stubborn of students. He has built himself a reputation as a loving and knowledgeable instructor among both his fellow staff members and the students.
Ron Cardamone, Instructor
Ron earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math Secondary Education from Temple University. He completed his student teaching requirement at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia and received a Pennsylvania Teaching Certification. After graduating college, Ron taught Math in the Neshaminy and Souderton school districts before entering the computer industry where he managed Software Consulting Services and Sales/ Customer Support. Ron has three daughters and five grandkids with whom he continues to share his love of math.
Justin Scarpulla, Instructor
My name is Justin Scarpulla. Math has always been my favorite subject ever since elementary school, and it is the one subject that I have consistently excelled at throughout my schooling years. I worked for Kumon when I was in high school, which gave me a little background into tutoring kids and opened up the door for the opportunity that I have today to be a part of the Mathnasium Family. I hope that I can be a benefit to the community by helping to improve children’s math comprehension and skills, one student at a time.
Claire Hickey, Instructor
Claire received her Bachelors degree in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh in the spring of 2020, where she worked as a tutor in her school's Math Assistance Center and taught College Algebra as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant her senior year. While she came to us with much experience teaching college-aged students (even a few adults!), she actively enjoys working with children to help them develop a love for math earlier on.
When it comes to working with children, Claire particularly enjoys their bright smiles and excitement to learn. While continuing her Graduate education in Applied & Computational Mathematics, Claire plans to continue on improving her teaching methods, something she has become very passionate about. She is a huge Lord of the Rings fan & has visited the Hobbiton Movie Set in New Zealand!
Larry Martinek, Creator of the Mathnasium Method
Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students' ability to “do” math, thereby increasing students' math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curriculas ever produced for teaching math.
While Larry is not an Instructor at our Center, he is a valuable asset we can call on to ask about specific students' scenarios for guidance and advice. This has helped to make visits more productive and enjoyable for many of our students.
