Howdy, I'm Luke Coughlin. I struggled in primary school and subsequently in high school as well. I even had to attend what I liked to call "bonus school". I (really my parents) sought outside help, with regular sessions at a learning center. I'm so glad they did because I had felt so confused during my school's classes and the sessions gave me the attention and care I needed to understand the material.
Breaking this confusion cycle early was a major contributing factor for me changing my tune, and becoming deeply invested in understanding the language of all things, Mathematics. I tutored while earning my associate's degree in Mathematics at Harrisburg Area Community College then because I can't leave academic stones unturned, I continued enrolling in courses such that I could complete the computer science program as well. I took the last of my extra courses at the end of 2019 and enrolled in an online Data Science course for what was supposed to be only the start of 2020.
While tutoring at HACC, I understood and explained many areas of mathematics well to many students. I began to seek answers on how to better educate others in mathematics and began researching the topic thoroughly- even to this day. This research continues and is discussed than implemented daily through our team’s interactions with our students. I hope to pursue my formal studies in the future, to better help our students understand working with numbers.
Chanraksmey Lay
Assistant Center Director
I am Chanraksmey Lay, born and raised in Cambodia, where I completed my undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia. I have since moved to the United States, where I am currently pursuing a degree in Math/Computer Science at Harrisburg Area Community College. I have worked on several projects related to space technology. In Cambodia, I developed the solid-fuel and flight avionics, flight computer, and GUI for an Amateur Rocket Project. I also participated in a competition organized by The Singapore Space and Technology Ltd, where I designed payload instruments and radiation shielding for a satellite mission, assigning project responsibilities to team members, and ensuring completion by the deadline. Currently, I am an assistant center director at Mathnasium, a math learning center, where I assess the mathematical needs of students and create personalized learning plans to help them understand the concepts they are working on.
My passion for teaching began during my senior year of high school when I initiated a study club to help struggling students in math, physics, chemistry, and biology. I find it enchanting and appealing to help people, and I derive my happiness from their success. Consequently, all my classmates passed the national exam with good grades. As an assistant center director at Mathnasium of Colonial Park, I am thrilled to contribute my experience and knowledge to help all students understand the concepts of Mathematics.
Naraly Perez
Instructor
Hi, I’m Nat! I have been an instructor at the Colonial Park Mathnasium for over a year now. I am currently a senior at Susquehanna Township High school and will be continuing my education at Penn State University next year. Working here has brought me many opportunities and I am so happy that I am able to help so many kids everyday in improving their math skills. Two of my favorite things are helping people and doing math, so getting to do both of them simultaneously as my job is very rewarding. All of the staff here have always been such a pleasure to work with. The instructors are always ready to help and the students always come ready to learn, so if you decide to bring your student here, you will not be disappointed!

Greetings Earthlings!
I'm Hannah, an instructor at Mathnasium of Colonial Park, and I'm thrilled to be part of your math learning journey. My passion for teaching blossomed while working as an instructor at an art center. After earning my degree in fine art and becoming a parent, I made the decision to return to college to pursue a degree that would include my love of math and science: the field of engineering.
At Mathnasium my goal is to help students find the joy in math and grasp the foundation of both art and engineering - mathematics! I'm excited to witness the growth of understanding in each student over the course of their time with us.
Looking forward to exploring the wonders of math together!
