Howdy, I'm Luke Coughlin. I struggled in primary school and subsequently in high school as well. I even had to attend what I liked to call "bonus school". I (really my parents) sought outside help, with regular sessions at a learning center. I'm so glad they did because I had felt so confused during my school's classes and the sessions gave me the attention and care I needed to understand the material.
Breaking this confusion cycle early was a major contributing factor for me changing my tune, and becoming deeply invested in understanding the language of all things, Mathematics. I tutored while earning my associate's degree in Mathematics at Harrisburg Area Community College then, because I can't leave academic stones unturned, I continued enrolling in courses such that I could complete the computer science program as well. I then combined these topics together and studied Data Science. While tutoring at HACC, I understood and explained many areas of mathematics well to many students. I began to seek answers on how to better educate others in mathematics and began researching the topic thoroughly- even to this day. This research continues and is discussed than implemented daily through our team’s interactions with our students. I hope to pursue my formal studies in the future, to better help our students understand working with numbers.
Greetings Earthlings! I'm Hannah, an instructor at Mathnasium of Harrisburg, and I'm thrilled to be part of your math learning journey. My passion for teaching blossomed while working as an instructor at an art center. After earning my degree in fine art and becoming a parent, I made the decision to return to college to pursue a degree that would include my love of math and science: the field of engineering. At Mathnasium my goal is to help students find the joy in math and grasp the foundation of both art and engineering - mathematics! I'm excited to witness the growth of understanding in each student over the course of their time with us. Looking forward to exploring the wonders of math together!
Hello, my name is Pat. I am a student of computer science, maintaining an A GPA. So far, I have studied calculus 1 through 3, discrete mathematics, proofs, statistics, linear algebra and matrix algebra. Additionally, I am proficient in a number of computer programming languages and currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the field. In the past, I have attended conferences dealing with finance, business, and negotiation, and thus I have a good deal of experience in communicating and instruction. Teaching students mathematics works to apply these skills and experiences. I could not be happier to be an instructor to apply these skills. I look forward to helping you or your child achieve their full potential as a mathematician.
Hi, I’m Grace! I’m currently a sophomore at Cumberland Valley High School, and I plan on pursuing my education in business and finance in college! Math has always been my favorite subject in school because I enjoy problem-solving and learning about numbers, concepts, and the way they work. I began accelerating in math when I had the exciting opportunity to advance two grade levels over the summer in sixth grade, and since then, I’ve continued to challenge myself with high-level courses! Outside of school, I love staying active by playing soccer and biking, and I also enjoy volunteering and helping others in my community. Tutoring at Mathnasium gives me the great opportunity to combine my passion for math and my desire to help others succeed! My goal as a tutor is to make learning math fun for everyone, build students’ confidence, and to help others advance as I did when they’re ready! I can’t wait to start helping your student.
Hey, I'm Ziyana, currently a high school junior with A+'s in all my math classes so far. My interest in mathematics and seeing growth within students' logical thinking led me to becoming an instructor at Mathnasium of Harrisburg. As a current taekwondo instructor, I have had experience teaching students of various ages the fundamentals of maneuvering one's body. Arguably, mathematics is somewhat similar in the way that it deals with the mental aspect of maneuvering one's ways of thinking. Being intrigued with problem-solving as a child, I was naturally drawn to math; however, school overcomplicated it and made it feel tedious for me, even though that is not how math feels for me now. In addition to teaching and reinforcing math concepts, I aim to help students willingly challenge their mental capacities. I can't wait to be a part of your child's journey in developing their skills in mathematics!
