Prof. Dinshaw S. Balsara, PhD

Co-owner
TEACHING EXPERIENCE: Dinshaw is professor of Physics and Applied Math at the University of Notre Dame with a long experience in teaching Math and Physics to all students, including his own two kids. FUN FACT: He has also written over 100 original research papers in Math and Physics and won several international prizes for his research contributions. Having made an in-depth study of various programs for K-12 math education, he came to the conclusion that the Mathnasium Method is the absolute best way of delivering math education to young students.

Doug Gorter

Lead Instructor
Doug has a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education from Dordt University and a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education from Central Washington University. He has taught high school math for over 20 years and currently teaches at Illiana Christian High School. He is also an adjunct math instructor at Indiana University Northwest. Doug enjoys card and board games, reading, running, hiking, camping, travel and spending time with his wife and children.

Kimberly Julian

Lead Instructor
Degree: Kimberly Julian has a Bachelor of Science from Hyles-Anderson College. Teaching Experience: Kimberly has been a high school math teacher for 5 years, with experience with teaching middle school math as well. Fun Fact: Kimberly is fluent in Spanish, she loves nature and going on hikes and finding cute coffee shops.

Stacy Young

Instructor
Degree: Stacy has a Bachelor's degree in music and a Master's degree in elementary education from the University of Chicago. Teaching experience: Stacy has over 10 years of experience teaching elementary school. She has exclusively taught middle school math over the last 5 years to students with diverse learning needs. Fun fact: Stacy loves soccer and her favorite club is Paris Saint-Germain.

Tracy Moyers

Instructor
Education: Tracy has been a math teacher for middle school for 33 years with the Hammond school district. She loves to see her students get excited about math, and is very passionate about her students education. She has also been the coach for the middle school basketball team. Fun Fact: In her spare time Tracy enjoys hiking, playing games, watching sports, and once in a while, experience something adventurous like skydiving.

Ian Foreman

Instructor
Degree: Ian holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University. He also obtained minors in philosophy and applied mathematics. Hobbies: Ian is an avid musician; he loves to play guitar, drums, and keyboard. When he's not making music, he's often enjoying a game of chess, running, or playing tennis. Fun fact: While in college, Ian participated in several performances with his university's street dancing club!

Ken Kantor

Instructor
Ken earned a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin. Throughout his professional career, he applied engineering concepts and provided cybersecurity solutions to protect critical infrastructures. Once he retired, Ken worked at another Mathnasium Center in Illinois. His goal is to help kids be successful with science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Ken has written and book, and is in the process of writing another one. He and his wife love spending time with their grandkids, and spending time outdoors on walking trails.

Kevin Jones

Instructor
Degree: Kevin received a BE in Electrical Engineering in the early 1990s and worked for a major communications company for 25 years. In appreciation of being able to make a living in which he was able to use his math skills, Kevin decided to start a second career educating the youth of the community with hopes of providing life long skills. Most recently he graduated from Governor's State University with a Master degree in Mathematics for secondary education. Fun Fact: Kevin loves to spend time with his family.

Delna Balsara

Ad-Hoc Instructor
SCHOOL: Senior at University of Notre Dame, IN. She plans to double major in computer science engineering and industrial design. HOBBIES: Delna loves to play the piano, especially classical pieces and Rachmaninoff is her favorite! She has won gold medals at the ISSMA competition at the State level. She also likes to take her dog, Cuddles, for walks and pamper him. Delna loves to travel and try cuisines from different parts of the world! FUN FACT: Delna enjoys learning physics and math. She has obtained a PERFECT SCORE OF 800 on her SAT math advanced test. She was an integral part of Girls Who Code at Penn High School.

Grace Combs

Online Instructor
School: I am a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame studying Environmental Engineering. Hobbies: I love to sing and play the guitar, especially for residents of the local nursing home with the Music is Medicine club at ND. I also love to play lacrosse, even if it's not for a team. When I am back home in Colorado, I love to ski and hike with my family (mostly my dogs). Fun Fact: Back in Colorado, I worked at a Mathnasium for two and a half years during high school! I absolutely love the Mathnasium concept and teaching, so I am so happy to have found a Mathnasium here.

Diya Patel

Instructor
Diya is a junior at Munster High School. She is a certified research assistant intern at the University of Chicago Medicine where she aims at improving the quality of care for patients hospitalized. She is also an international qualifier and vice president of leadership for DECA. Additionally, she is a co-founder of a policy and advocacy team for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Diya admires the concept of Mathnasium, and firmly believes that educating others is a form of learning in and of itself. Fun Fact: During her leisure time, she enjoys traveling and dancing to contemporary Bollywood and Indian Classical Music.

Shana Shah

Instructor
My name is Shana and I am a senior at Munster High School. I am a part of the Munster HS Chorale and I am this year's HUM President. I love to play tennis, sing, and dance. I am involved in many other clubs and activities at my school such as DECA, HOSA, ASB, and Robotics. I have always found math to be my favorite subject in school and I love teaching kids. After graduation, I would like to go into pre-med and double major in biochemistry and music.

Ryder Thompson

I am a senior at Lake Central High School. I run cross country and track at Lake Central. I love to run, play basketball, hang out with friends, and watch movies. Some fun facts are that I love rock climbing, and am very interested in space so much in fact, that I would like to make a career out of it.
