Devyn Collins, Center Director
Devyn is a highly motivated licensed educator with a strong commitment to community service who has a Masters in Education from Merrimack College. She joins Mathnasium from Next Level Up, a personalized tutoring/coaching organization that assesses student's learning styles and helps them persevere through their current barriers to success. Devyn has experience classroom teaching at Newman Elementary and Walker School in Needham. She has also managed teams in retailing and non-profit housing industries. Devyn is a strong advocate for children who utilizes a strengths-based approach that enables students to excel by setting long-term goals and rewarding hard work and achievement. Devyn is drawn to Mathnasium by her passion for working with families in order to help students achieve their greatest potential.
John M. Harris, Jr., CFA - Co-Owner
John is drawn to Mathnasium by a passion for learning, coaching, and contributing to kids' lives. John loves helping kids extend their math skills in a fun and energetic environment. Prior to Mathnasium, John had 25+ years experience managing money and leading investment research teams at Fidelity, Morgan Stanley, Citadel, and CJ3 Investments. John graduated from the Hotchkiss School, Princeton University, and the Wharton School. John has been recognized as a Top Gun Investment Mind and is a member of the Boston Society of Securities Analysts. John lives in Boston with his wife Jessie and their kids Charlotte and Jack - who are are psyched to join this math journey. In his free time, John enjoys golf, skiing, doubles squash, coaching lacrosse, backgammon, the Patriots, and reading.
Josh Darwin, Co-Owner
Prior to Mathnasium, Josh Darwin spent 20+ years in financial services. He was most recently Head of Boston Institutional Sales for Merrill Lynch. Josh studied at Tabor Academy, University of London and Tufts University. Josh is drawn to Mathnasium by his love of education and working with kids. He lives in Needham with his wife and 2 sons Jack and George. Josh is an avid boater and golfer who enjoys coaching kids and following Boston sports.
Emily Acito - Instructor
Emily graduated from Boston College in May of 2019 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and Math/Computer Science, along with a minor in Middle School Math. She currently works as a first grade teacher at St. Theresa of Avila School in West Roxbury. Emily believes in the importance of incorporating social-emotional learning into academics to ensure students feel safe, respected, and cared for. Throughout high school and college, Emily has worked with elementary, middle, and high school students in a variety of subjects, particularly math. Tutoring, along with her previous work as a swim coach, has showed Emily how much she enjoys working with students across a variety of grade levels. When not at Mathnasium, Emily can be found swimming laps in the pool or reading by the beach.
Olamide (Larry) Adeyeri - Instructor
Larry joins us from Boston Latin School, where he is a Senior and two-time captain of the wrestling team and a varsity football player. Larry has qualified for the all-state wrestling roster three times. In addition to a love of math and athletics, Larry has been a Young Leader for the Institute for Global Youth Development, a tutor at Georgetowne Homes, a volunteer for the Rachel Rollins political campaign, and an Ambassador for the Bay State Games. Larry will be a freshman at Williams College in the fall.
Cameron Baker - Instructor
Cam is a member of the National Honors Society and received close to a perfect math score on the SAT. He earned an A in his pre-calculus course during the last school year. He is interested in pursuing a career in business and economics. In his free time, Cam participates in YouthLEAD, is an avid member of the Friendship Circle of Sharon, and tutors middle schoolers in Math. Cam will be a Senior at Sharon High School this coming fall, where he has played varsity basketball for two years.
Drew Baker - Instructor
Drew joins us from the Joseph A. Browne Middle School in Chelsea, where he taught Math for grades 5 & 7. While at Browne, Drew participated in regular Subject Matter Advisory Team meetings to improve Math education at the school. Drew has a Masters of Arts in Math Education from Brandeis University and a BA in Economics from Clark University. Drew is an active community volunteer, having earned the President's Volunteer Service Award in 2015.
Ken Bourque - Instructor
Ken has had a long and distinguished career in mathematics. He has a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and has taught math and engineering at Northeastern and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Ken also worked in the private sector as Senior Engineer for EG&G and BAE Systems and has carried Secret clearance while working on projects for the Department of Defense and the Atomic Energy Commission. Ken founded the HP Calculator Club at Wentworth. In his spare time, Ken restores classic cars.
David D'Alessandro - Instructor
In addition to loving math, David is an avid athlete and volunteer. David captains the football team and plays on the baseball team at Roxbury Latin School, where is currently a Junior. Along with athletics, David is a mentor for incoming students new to the school and a member of Habitat for Humanity. Outside school, David volunteers at the Immigrant Family Services Institute in Roslindale. In his free tinme, David loves playing the guitar and watching football.
Shaina Fils-Aime - Instructor
Shaina joins us from Boston University, where she is a Senior studying for a BSE in Computer Engineering. She has a gift for communicating complex mathematical concepts, particularly for high schoolers in upper math. Shaina has been helping kids grow in math for the past 5 years at The Calculus Project at BU, Boston Latin School, New Beginnings Academy, and Tutors for All. In addition to a love for math, Shaina has been an active volunteer, working with Upward Bound and E^3 Mentoring. Shaina is fluent in Haitian Creole and speaks French, Python, and C++. We are thrilled to have her on the team!
Michaela Fitzgerald - Instructor
Michaela is finishing her Senior at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, MA. She is planning on attending Stonehill Collegein the fall and will double major in Math and Secondary Education. She is currently taking AP Calculus BC and has an A grade in the class. She also got a near perfect score on the math section of the SAT. In her free time, Michaela enjoys running in cross country and track, playing the piano, and composing music.
Dylan Gramuglia - Instructor
Hi - my name is Dylan Gramuglia. I've veen working at Avery Elementary School since the 2017-2018 school year. I work as a paraprofessional, which means I work in inclusion and pull students out to work on specific skills in Mathematics and Readins. I graduated from Curry College in 2018 with a double major in Education and ILS. I am continuing my education by pursuing my Masters degree. I played Defensive End on the Curry College football team! I'm originally from New Jersey ... so Go Yankees! I can't wait to work with all of the kids and to learn and grow together!
Amelia Layne - Instructor
Amelia was Valedictorian of Dedham High School in 2019. While at Dedham High, Amelia was President of the Dedham HighSchool Math Team and was involved in the New England Math League competitions. Amelia is an animal lover who has cats and an extensive home fish collection.
Max Pozner - Instructor
Max is an “A” math student at Sharon High School. This student athlete is also Captain of the Wrestling team. Max is a leader in the student mentors club, which facilitates 8th graders transitioning to high school. Max is the Teen President of the Friendship Circle of Sharon. The Friendship Circle serves individuals with disabilities by offering a variety of inclusive social and recreational programs.
Morgan Sipp - Instructor
Morgan is currently a senior at Dover-Sherborne High School and recorded a nearly perfect SAT score in Math. She is looking forward to attending Southern Methodist University in the fall of 2019. She is the eldest of four siblings and loves kids. Morgan is a champion horse jumper and has won several Blue Ribbons on her horse Gunner.
Sophia Serratore - Instructor
Sophia is the President of the Environmental Youth Coalition at Norwood High Schoool, where she is a Senior. Sophia is also a member of the National Honor Society. She loves Math so much that she took a Statistics course at a local community college this past summer. Aside from Math, Sophia is the floor director for her school's morning news program and a volunteer religion teacher at her local church.
Danielle Tarchara - Instructor
Danielle is currently pursuing her Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College. Danielle graduated in 2019 from Stonehill College with a BA in Elementary Education and Mathematics, and she has her Massachusetts teaching license for grades 1-6. At Stonehill College, Danielle was a teaching assistant for Calculus 1 and 2, tutored at a homework center for middle and high school students, and completed various placements across the elementary grade levels. Danielle was also a recipient of the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship funded through the National Science Foundation. This scholarship is designed for students who major in both education and mathematics and are committed to teaching math in a high-need school. On top of her passions for teaching and math, Danielle loves to read, spend time with family and friends, and play the clarinet.
Kevin Yan - Instructor
Kevin holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from UMASS Boston and is currently pursuing his Master of Education in Middle/Secondary Education at UMASS Boston. After receiving his B.S., he served with AmeriCorps in urban education services, prompting him to pursue a career in mathematics education as he personally witnessed a shortage of qualified teachers. From then on, Kevin taught mathematics for various education programs and institutes within Boston, Greater Boston, and the South Shore. As a pedagogical preference, Kevin has embraced the Singapore Math sequential approach of concrete-pictorial-abstract methodology to ensure that students are learning effectively. In his free time, Kevin enjoys comics, manga, and video games, and is a passionate UFC fan.
Priscilla Zhang - Instructor
Priscilla hopes to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and Business Management next year, after her Senior year at Norwood High School. She currently plans to take the BC Calculus exam in May, and she receieved a near-perfect Math score on the ACT. Outside of the classroom, Priscilla is Vice President of the National Honor Society at Norwood High and an activce member of the music community. She is a member of her school's wind ensemble, concert band, symphonic orchestra, and marching band! in addition, she is passionate about giving back to her community, and she volunteers her weekends to teach English online to impoverished students in China.
