Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

Sam Younis, Center Owner

Sam graduated Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University, where he studied the social sciences and gained a deep appreciation for math and statistical analysis. He then earned an MFA in Theater from Columbia University, where he nurtured his creative side. Prior to owning Mathnasium, Sam has worked as an actor, writer, public servant, and tutor. As an actor, Sam has appeared on Broadway and in television and film. As a top-level field operations manager for the 2010 US Census, Sam collected and analyzed statistical data that would later become official 2010 Census records.  In 2012, Sam opened his first Mathnasium center in Los Angeles before moving to Georgia with his family two and a half years later.  Now firmly rooted in Georgia, Sam is also the owner of the Mathnasium centers in Decatur and Morningside (opening in fall 2019!) and has served on the Mathnasium Franchisee Advisory Committee, which helps guide Mathnasium Headquarters as it makes key decisions about the direction of the company.  His center in Decatur is ranked among the top 40 out of 1,000 centers in the country and also earned an award from Mathnasium Headquarters for outstanding growth in its 2nd year of operation.  An advocate of both math and the arts, Sam is passionate about the Mathnasium Method because it enables kids to apply creativity to the understanding of math. It is his mission to help kids develop excellent number sense and have fun along the way!

Claire Kuykendall, Field Support Specialist

Claire joined the Mathnasium team in the summer of 2015 while she finished up her time at Georgia Tech where she majored in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Environmental Science. After graduation, she continued working at Mathnasium until she left for her post-graduate studies at the University of Glasgow in Scotland where she studied Environmental Statistics. Claire's love of math and helping others find their love of math brought her back to Mathnasium when she returned from her studies abroad. Outside of Mathnasium, Claire can be found at a concert, obsessing over all things Swedish, or binge-watching shows on Netflix.

Ryan Escalante, Instructor

Ryan grew up in Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He graduated with a B.S. in biology with a focus on neurobiology. After undergrad, Ryan moved to Mexico where he taught introductory biology at the Monterrey Technical Institute. When in Mexico, Ryan began to formally pursue visual art and ultimately moved to Atlanta to study classical realism under a renowned color theorist in the Atlanta area. Nowadays Ryan divides his time equally between his passions of mathematics and fine art and would like to someday unify the two.

Ryan, what's your favorite part of teaching?

"I really enjoy working with young people to help them attain their educational goals, as well as foster interest and curiosity about the world."

Dennis Frank, Instructor

Dennis graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering and is a certified Advanced EMT. In his free time, he likes to run, read, and play music. His favorite irrational number is the Golden Ratio, and he enjoys making math simple for his students to understand.

Emma Earley, Instructor

Emma is a student at Georgia State Perimeter with a major in Physics. She has a lifelong passion for math and science. Her favorite things about working with students are sharing her love of math and providing creative solutions to really help concepts click. In her spare time, she does visual art, including paring, drawing, and sewing.

Charli Harper, Instructor

Charli is a junior at Agnes Scott College with a major in biology. He loves animals and enjoys going on long walks with his dog and reading in his spare time.

Roma Joshi, Instructor

Roma is a student at Georgia Institute of Technology with a major in Information Technology Management. Her favorite math concepts are Trigonometry and Integration. In her free time, she enjoys reading and practicing karate.

Esha Bhat, Instructor

Esha is a freshman at the University of Georgia. She has been tutoring for over a year now and loves working with kids! Her favorite math is probably calculus or graphing equations.

Benjamin Storrs, Instructor Emeritus

Benjamin attended the University of Georgia and plans to return with a focus on Finance.  Benjamin has recently returned to Atlanta after having previously lived in Chattanooga, TN.  He began tutoring largely to his friends and family while at university, helping friends with calculus and his younger sister with algebra.  Benjamin spends his free time playing guitar and trying to figure out how a banjo works.

Benjamin used to be the center director but stepped down to head back to college. He still likes to stop by from time to time because he loves math so much!

Benjamin, what's your favorite part of working at Mathnasium?

"I love being able to show students creative ways to solve problems. It's always more fun to see a student come up with new ways to figure out a math problem, rather than get stuck repeating the same steps."
