Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Christian Jovel

Chris Jovel is a Sparks native. His passion for math started in high school where he was actively involved in various engineering and math clubs such as MESA of Northern Nevada and FIRST Robotics. As a member of the GATE institute at Hug high school, he challenged himself by taking AP classes beginning with his freshman year through completion of high school. He graduated from Hug High School in 2020. He takes pride in being a compassionate and understanding mentor to all his students. His approachable demeanor and ability to connect with kids makes learning an enjoyable and comfortable experience for them. He is pursuing a degree in Computer Science at the University of Nevada, Reno; a natural application of his strong foundation in mathematics. Additionally, because of his high empathy, he explains complex concepts in terms anyone can comfortably understand. Throughout his academic journey, math has always been a subject in which he excelled and enjoyed teaching to others, while striving to provide a positive and nurturing environment. “My ultimate goal is to help his students build confidence in their abilities and develop a lifelong love for math.” We are so glad to have Chris as a part of our team!

Brandon Mick

Brandon was born in Reno and raised near Sacramento before moving back to Sparks.  He was always involved with math, whether participating in Math Olympiad throughout elementary school or testing out of classes in later years.  In his senior year of high school, Brandon began tutoring at his local Mathnasium, applying his love of math to help others succeed.  After graduating from Rocklin High School in 2022, he began pursuing mechanical engineering and a minor in electrical engineering at the University of Nevada. “I feel that having a strong understanding of math can open up so many possibilities for younger minds, so anything I can do to help create an enjoyment in this subject for these kids is beneficial.” We’re happy Brandon is bringing his math skills to help our Sparks families here at Mathnasium of East Sparks.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
