Amanda Townsend

Lead Instructor
Amanda has been with Mathnasium since July 2013. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marist College with a B. A. in Adolescent Education in Mathematics. She minored in Psychology and Spanish and completed a concentration in Bilingual Education, as well as a year of Arabic for fun. Out of all of the mathematical subjects, she enjoys trigonometry the most. When asked why she enjoys math, she replied, "I love problem solving and see math as another language we can use to express ourselves." Outside of math, Amanda enjoys painting, solving puzzles, and gaming on the PC.

Janet Bishop

Instructor
Janet has been with Mathnasium since December 2015. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in Computer Science, a Minor in Mathematics, and received her teaching certification from University of St. Joseph. She taught 6th and 7th grade math for 9 years. When asked why she enjoys math, she answered, "I enjoy reasoning things out, problem solving, and the satisfaction of getting the correct answer." Outside of math, Janet enjoys singing in a choir, walking and hiking in nature, and doing a variety of crafts.

Andrea Gardner

Instructor
Andrea has been with Mathnasium since November 2019. She has a degree in Decision Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania. Out of all of the mathematical subjects, she enjoys estimation the most. When asked why she enjoys math, she said, "It helps us understand the world around us---science, economics, medicine, modeling, and more are all based on math!" Outside of math, Andrea enjoys baking, hiking, and jigsaw puzzles.

Stoyko Nikolov

Instructor
Stoyko has been with Mathnasium since March 2022. He graduated from Hamilton College with a degree in Math and Economics and from University of North Carolina where he received his Master's degree in Operations Research. Out of all of the mathematical subjects, he enjoys abstract algebra the most. When asked why he enjoys math, he replied, "Because it is the foundation of all science." Outside of math, Stoyko enjoys hiking, golf, and photography.

Leila Azimov

Instructor
Leila has been with Mathnasium since August 2022. She is currently a senior at Glastonbury High School. Out of all of the mathematical subjects, she enjoys percentages the most. When asked why she enjoys math, she responds, "I love the challenge." Outside of math, Leila enjoys tennis, seeing friends, and playing the piano.

Alex Koch

Instructor
Alex has been with Mathnasium since September 2022. He graduated from University of Connecticut and is now in graduate school at Central Connecticut State University. Out of all of the mathematical subjects, he enjoys set theoretic topology the most. When asked why he enjoys math, he replied, "The pedantic counterexamples and neat shapes." Outside of math, Alex enjoys running, solving crossword puzzles, and football.

Trinity Nguyen

Instructor
Trinity has been with Mathnasium since September 2023, but her journey with Mathnasium started as a student. She is currently a senior at Glastonbury High School. Out of all of the mathematical subjects, she enjoys geometry the most. When asked why she enjoys math, she said, "Because it's satisfying to solve problems." Outside of math, Trinity enjoys listening to music, playing tennis, and going to the gym.

Alex Mauldin

Instructor
Alex has been with Mathnasium since November 2023. He is currently a senior at Bacon Academy. Out of all of the mathematical subjects, he enjoys discrete math the most. When asked why he enjoys math, she says, “I’ve always learned math well and I like how it helps me understand the world around me.” Outside of math, Alex enjoys robotics, Rubik’s cube, and crocheting.

Marina McLaughlin

Instructor
Marina has been with Mathnasium since January 2024. She is currently a senior at Rham High School. Out of all of the mathematical subjects, she enjoys fractions the most. When asked why she enjoys math, she responds, “I like how everything can be solved using logic.” Outside of math, Marina enjoys volleyball, going out with friends, and chocolate.
