Bon Chau, Center Director
Bon is the Center Director at Mathnasium of Glendora. Bon has been center director for more than 8 years, understanding well in Mathnasium Method and experienced in teaching the students in the way that makes sense to them. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA, in which it provided a solid foundation on the math skills. He has taught and tutored over hundreds of students of all ages, and he is committed to bringing the math skills to his students by using an unique combination of mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques. He also spends time with each student to find out his/her best learning style (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic).
Working in Mathnasium since 2011, Bon found this position as a perfect place to fulfill his goal of teaching math to children and reach out to the local communities in Glendora and the surrounding area.
Besides teaching, Bon also has different kinds of hobbies such as photography, biking, guitar, etc. He is also one of the advisors in the College Fellowship in his church, First Chinese Baptist Church Los Angeles. In addition, he has been visiting different third world countries, along with his lovely wife Athena, in order to bless the people and to share the Good News with them.
Alcira, Lead Instructor
Alcira has joined our team since 2016. She is a Chemical Engineering major at Cal Poly Pomona. Her favorite subjects are math and chemistry. In her free time she enjoys hiking and reading.
Josh has joined our team since 2016. He has a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Cal Poly Pomona, and is currently enrolled at Claremont Graduate University to get a Master's degree in math and a teaching credential. He has always been passionate about making math accessible and fun for all students.
Alina has joined our team since 2018. She currently attends Glendora High School and in the future she plans to major in accounting. Alina’s interest in Mathnasium sparked when she saw the opportunity to work with her two favorite things, math and kids. Something interesting about Alina is that she is left handed. In her spare time, Alina loves to go on spontaneous trips with her and explore new coffee shops.
Jesus has joined our team since 2019. He is currently attending Cal Poly, Pomona, working towards a Chemical Engineering degree. He heard from too many people that math is a subject that is "too hard". He always envied the joy that his math teachers got whenever they helped a struggling student truly understand a challenging concept. He wanted to experience this feeling himself, and so when he was looking for a job, he looked for a place that was committed to making math make sense to kids who were being challenged by the subject. He found Mathnasium - and, we are so glad that he did!
Jesus is a hardcore Disney fan, and has quite a collection of Disney pins.
Bethany has joined our team since 2019. She is currently enrolled at Azusa Pacific University and is majoring in Liberal Studies. She will be graduating in 2019 and hopes to obtain her teaching credentials shortly after. She enjoys interacting with the students at Mathnasium and hopes the experience and the teaching techniques she learns will transfer to her future classroom. When she is not at Mathnasium she is working at Sandburg Middle School as an AVID tutor and helps coach 10 and under softball. During her spare time she enjoys being active, healthy, and helping others.
Mark has joined our team since 2019. He is currently attending California State University Fullerton, working towards a master’s degree in civil engineering. He enjoys interacting with students and practicing his math skills and hopes the experience will help improve his communication skills while keeping his math in check. During his spare time, he likes to watch movies and hang out with his friends.
Mario has joined our team in 2019. He is currently attending Citrus College and is working towards a degree in Civil Engineering. As a kid, he always found a love for math and it was his favorite subject in school. Math has always been hard but he knows its always satisfying to find a solution and have everything come together. He has always been very intrigued by the way math works and has a real passion for it. Then environment in Mathnasium has been "absolutely amazing" and working with the kids has really made him excited to be a part of the team.
Owen has joined our team since 2019. He is currently a student at Glendora High School, and he hopes to major in Engineering in college. He has always enjoyed learning about math in school and how it can be applied in the real world, and he enjoys helping others to understand and enjoy math as much as he does. Owen is an Eagle Scout and enjoys going on camping and hiking trips.
Sulabh has joined our team since 2020. He recently graduated from UC San Diego with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and plans to attend medical school in the near future. Math was one of his favorite subjects in school and at Mathnasium, he hopes to help other students feel similarly about math. Sulabh is a sports enthusiast, and in his spare time, he enjoys watching and playing basketball and spikeball.
Kayley has joined our team since 2020. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Applied Statistics from California Baptist University. She plans to begin a Mathematics Ph.D. program in Fall 2020 with the dream of becoming a professor. She has always had a passion for helping people understand math and loves getting to interact with the students at Mathnasium. In her free time, she loves spending time outdoors, grabbing a cup of coffee, and spending time with friends and family.
