Naresh Jessani, Center Director/Owner
Naresh is the Owner and Center Director at Mathnasium of Jersey City. A management consultant by background, Naresh decided in 2014 to pursue a career change and do what he really loves which is help kids in Math. Naresh chose the Mathnasium approach because of the emphasis on one-on-one active instruction. Naresh was born in England and moved to New Jersey at age 9. He is a graduate of Glen Ridge High School and has a BA in Economics and Computer Science from Rutgers, New Brunswick. He also has graduate credits from NYU Stern MBA Program and Lehman College Math Education Program.
Naresh believes there's no better place to run a business than in the dynamic and diverse Jersey City community.
Saul Castellanos, Director of Instruction
Saul has been with us since 2016. He is our lead instructor and has a true passion for Math. His passion extends to teaching Math, Math Research, Mathematical Modeling and most significantly Musical Forms. He likes building logical, step-by-step approaches to solve Math problems. He believes in helping students achieve success by developing their own passion for Math. He’s a Cum Laude graduate of Rutgers University – Newark with majors in both Economics and Music. He is currently enrolled in a Jazz History and Research M.A. program at Rutgers. Saul is a long-time Jersey City resident and is a graduate of McNair Academic High School.
Phill Carrillo, Instructor
Phill is a graduate of New Jersey City University with a BA in Mathematics Education. He's on-track to complete his MS in Mathematics Education by the end of 2020. Phill has been tutoring since 2008 and joined Mathnasium in 2019. He loves working with kids and young adults in math and he’s finding his passion for computers paying off with Mathnasium@Home. Phil is a Jersey City native and currently lives in Bayonne. He’s a graduate of Henry Snyder High School.
Audrey D’Souza, Instructor
Audrey recently graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a BS in business and technology. She especially loves working with younger kids but is also an expert SAT coach. She’s been at Mathnasium since January 2018. She graduated from Whippany Park High School.
Louella Estillero, Instructor
Louella earned a BS in Mathematics from Northeastern University. She’s been teaching high school math, science, and STEM courses for the past nine years. Louella's goal is to give students the chance to fall in love with numbers – equipping them with the basic knowledge they need to build their own journey of discovering mathematics. She’s been at Mathnasium since 2017. In 2018, she was recognized as Instructor of the Year for the NJ/NY Region. Louella has Jersey City roots and is a graduate of Mother Seton Regional High School in Clark, NJ.
Karen Guaman, Instructor
Karen is a rising junior at New Jersey Institute of Technology where she’s pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering. She graduated from High Tech High School in 2018 and is delighted to give back by helping students of all ages strengthen their math skills. Math has always been her favorite subject ever since grade school because it’s precise and definite: “there’s always a correct answer!”
Tony Schramm, Instructor
Tony recently completed his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. His undergraduate work was in Physics with minors in Mathematics and Astrophysics at the University of Minnesota. He’s worked as a university teaching assistant in physics and biochemistry. Having recently completed Data Science bootcamp in NYC, he is making a career change into the Data Science field. He brings his highly developed skills and enthusiasm to our students, helping them overcome their math challenges. He’s been serving as a Mathnasium instructor since 2019. Tony is a Jersey City resident who lives near the running paths of Lincoln Park.
