Devi Paolillo MS, MFT, Owner/Center Director Master Certified by Mathnasium
Devi combines her many interests and professional talents to create the best learning experience possible for students. She has been an elementary school teacher, supervised student teachers, taught workshops for teachers on best ways to teach; and worked with children, adults, and families as a psychotherapist. As the owner of Mathnasium of Marana, she is responsible for developing and supervising the instructors, as well as managing the business. Devi’s favorite part by far is direct teaching time with Mathnasium students.
Devi has had twenty-five years of experience as an educator and therapist working with children of all ages and stages of development. Devi was a consultant for an educational training and development firm that offered professional development workshops for teachers, she also prepared a community college for accreditation by teaching and assisting faculty to design and develop their curriculum to standards. Additionally, as a therapist she specialized in helping families with adopted children. Devi graduated from Mount Saint Mary College with a degree in Mathematics and Education. She earned a Master in Science from SUNY New Paltz in Special Education and a second Masters at Hahnemann University in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Devi incorporates all she has done with an open heart to serve the students and families who come to Mathnasium.
Nirantha Balagopal, Director of Operations
Nirantha spent two years as an instructor at Mathnasium of Marana before returning to be the new Director of Operations! Her background includes a bachelors in Mathematics, a masters in Optical Engineering, 3+ years of engineering experience, and 7 years of working at camps (for ages 7-17 in both outdoor and STEM-learning based environments). Nirantha also currently sits on the board of a youth music & arts education nonprofit in Tucson. She is most excited about witnessing students' "Aha!" moments.
Meg Pietsch, Director of Education
With a B.S. in Mathematics and Master of Arts in Teaching and Teacher Education (Secondary Mathematics), Meg enjoys sharing her love of math with students. She has been tutoring math for 30+ years. One of her greatest joys is working at Mathnasium: seeing students gain confidence and excellence in Mathematics. As a grandmother of 2, she enjoys spending time with family as well as hiking, traveling, and Sudoku.
Karen Rutynowski, Admin Assistant
Karen has become a welcome part in our Mathnasium family by keeping us organized, providing support for instructors as well as students, and helping with customer relations. Along with receiving her B.S. in Information Technology and a M.Ed. in Elementary Education she has an extensive background in education. She left the UofA after almost 20 years. She then spent 17 years working as a Technology Specialist, Reading teacher, and an Information, Communication, and Technology aka Computer Science Instructor. Karen shares her hobbies of Reading and Computers with her two grandchildren.
Duane Durr, Instructor
Duane studied math at the Institute of Technology University of Minnesota with degrees in Mathematics and Operations Research. He retired from a career in healthcare administration and finance. Duane Tutored high school students frequently. He loves that eureka moment at Mathnasium when a student grasps a new concept - the expression on their face is priceless.
Becky Barbrow, Instructor
Becky grew up in Boston, Massachusetts with a software engineer mom who always nurtured a love of learning and an enthusiasm for math. After graduating from Boston College in 2010, she moved to Sacramento, California, to teach at a middle school for students experiencing homelessness. In 2015, Becky earned her Master’s of Arts in Teaching and her teaching license. She taught 6th grade math in the Chicago public schools for 4 years. She and her husband recently moved to Tucson, and she is thrilled to now be part of the Mathnasium of Marana family! Besides math, Becky loves running, hiking, cooking, and hanging out with family and friends.
Ethan Louderback, Instructor
Ethan is a senior in high school, and currently attends Marana High School. He has a passion in math and plans on attending a university to get a degree in mathematics. His favorite part of Mathnasium is when he sees a student’s face light up after understanding a new lesson for the first time. Some of his hobbies include playing videogames, computer programming, and spending time with friends.
Pari Patel, Instructor
Pari is a junior in high school, attending Ironwood Ridge. Prior to being an instructor, she was a student at Mathnasium. She loved the one-on-one help that Mathnasium provided. Her favorite part about Mathnasium is being able to build connections with each student and be a part of their math experiences. Her favorite hobby is paying softball with her teammates and spending time with her family.
Jude Lykins, Instructor
Jude is currently a senior at Marana High School. He loves everything about math and hopes to continue following that passion in college as he majors in a STEM field. His favorite part about Mathnasium seeing the gears turning in students’ minds as they work through the problem, and the satisfaction in their eyes as it clicks. Outside of math, Jude likes to swim, play bass, and hang out with friends.
