Meet the Team at Mathnasium of Albany-Berkeley

Andre Bertrand

Andre is the owner of Mathnasium of Albany-Berkeley. Prior to opening his center, Andre was a Senior VP at iHeartRadio in New York City. With an Electrical Engineering degree from McGill University, he has worked for more than 25 years as an engineer in telecommunications and multimedia. Over the years, he has done extensive coaching, teaching, and trouble-shooting. Originally from Canada, Andre has lived in Germany, Panama, New York, and Texas. Since moving to the Bay Area a few years ago with his wife, a Cal Professor, and their two school-age children, Andre has become an active parent in the community. Realizing the need for more individualized attention and targeted learning in math, Andre decided to bring Mathnasium to the Albany-Berkeley area. He is committed to sharing his enthusiasm for math and to bringing the Mathnasium Method to the children in the community.

Miles Green

Miles graduated UC Berkeley with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In his free time he enjoys watching movies, reading and taking classes at community college.

Christie Cameron

Christie graduated from CSU Chico with a BA in Humanities. In her free time she enjoys biking, baking cookies and playing in the park with her nieces and nephew.

Audrey Nordenholz

Audrey is a Junior at Albany High School who loves running, music, and cats. She loves that math usually has a straightforward answer and is extremely rewarding when you start to develop a real understanding for it. She is a runner on the cross country and track teams at AHS, along with a singer in Treble Chamber Ensemble. She is a chocolate lover and likes to spend time in nature.

Saadit Ahmed

Saadit is currently enrolled in his second year of high school at Albany High School. This is his first job, and so far he’s having a great time teaching children and learning alongside them. He was led to this occupation through his immense interest in math, and spends a good chunk of his free time online studying new theorems and ideas in the world of math. Besides that, he enjoys playing chess, playing video games, and hanging out with his friends.

Si-Jae Teh

Si-Jae is a sophomore at Albany High School currently taking Accelerated Math 2/3. She enjoys mathematics as there is always something new to learn---the "lightbulb" moment when everything finally clicks is such a satisfying feeling and never gets old. Si-Jae loves working at Mathnasium and helping students become even more mathematically adept than before; it feels wonderful when someone benefits from her help and advice.

Sabine Scott

Sabine is majoring in mathematics for Advanced Study at San Francisco State University and is currently taking real analysis and modern algebra. Sabine has two black cats, Millipede and Charcoal. Sabine likes playing bass guitar, painting, playing video games and working out.

Madeline Elizabeth Kester

Maddy is in her second year at UC Berkeley working towards an applied math degree. She loves the satisfaction that comes with solving a particularly difficult math problem and getting to learn about problem solving as a whole. In her free time, she loves reading, playing field hockey, and spending time outside.

Zoe Maderas 

Zoe is a high school student in Albany. She likes that math can help you solve real life problems, and that there often is more than one way to get to the solution. She enjoys helping students find new ways to get to the solution. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, biking, and making art.

Ezra Son

Ezra is a sophomore at Albany High School enrolled in Math 2/3. He enjoys using the critical thinking and logical reasoning required to solve math problems. In his free time, he enjoys running the mile, playing the clarinet, and solving Rubik's cubes as fast as possible.

Hao Xu

Hao always found math the most exciting subject and later dwelled in the world of physics, as it is highly interconnected with mathematics. His interest in math and physics inspired him to study Aerospace Engineering at UC Berkeley. With much experience supporting friends with math problems through his K12 education, he found it very satisfying to elucidate those who were confused about the subject.

Harsheet Subedi

Harsheet is in his junior year at Albany High School. He enjoys listening to music, traveling and playing tennis. He likes math because its influence over many fields like science, engineering and finance.

Oliver Arkin

Oliver is a junior at El Cerrito High School. Some of his hobbies include playing the French horn, playing with his dog, and spending time with his friends. He has completed AP Calculus BC and is going to take multivariable calculus at a local community college soon. He has a passion for mathematics and hopes to major in it once he goes off to college.

Tiegan Nagafuji

Tiegan is a student at Albany High School where she enjoys learning alongside her classmates. As an instructor at Mathnasium, Tiegan finds satisfaction in helping students build solid strategies to solve math problems. Outside of school, Tiegan loves to spend time with friends and family, snowboard, golf, draw and read.

Suvanjan Sitaula

Suvanjan, a third-year student at Albany High School, is passionate about helping the next generation with math, aiming to make it relevant to everyday life. Outside of academics, he enjoys working out, listening to music, and spending time with friends. While math is his favorite subject, he also has a keen interest in computers.

Ella Shonk

Ella is a second-year at UC Berkeley pursuing a linguistics major, and studying math and statistics when she can. She's very interested in different languages, and comparing how different languages' different grammars and phonemes can form the same meaning in different ways, or convey a meeting totally unique to a particular language-- and that math is also remarkable(and linguistic) for its ability to convey and contain information. In her free time, she enjoys graphic novels and writing

Daniel Hou

Daniel is a Senior at Albany High School where he takes Calculus BC. In his spare time he enjoys playing video games, running and listening to music.

Rojina Refai

Rojina is a Junior at Albany High School. When she's not busy with school and work, she enjoys reading, listening to music and cooking. She loves cooking pasta with her Mom!

Takeo Fernandez

Takeo is currently studying computer science at Diablo Valley Community College. He loves to hand out with friends, play video games and work out.
