Hello, my name is Jake Johnson, and I am one of the owners of Mathnasium of Auburn. I started with Mathnasium in September of 2014 and have loved it every step of the way! I graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor's Degree in secondary math education in 2012. I then briefly worked for the Boys and Girls Club in Auburn as the Athletic Director, while I started and completed my Master's in math education. Although I started with the intention of teaching in a school system, I found Mathnasium and made the easy decision to stay! After working at Mathnasium for a few years, I became the Center Director of Mathnasium of Inverness Corners in Birmingham in 2016 and later became the owner in 2023! I love Mathnasium because it allows me to teach students at their current math level rather than the grade level they are supposed to be in. In my spare time I enjoy playing basketball, swimming, and watching sports.
Chris is a proud father of three: his oldest is studying Industrial Engineering at Georgia Tech, his second is a nursing student at Auburn, and his youngest is a high school junior who wants to study finance in college. Chris and his wife, Holly, discovered Mathnasium in 2005 while seeking a meaningful career change—and it’s been a life-changing journey ever since.
With a deep passion for working with children, Chris has spent years volunteering as a small group leader, coach, and school board member. In Mathnasium’s early days, he played a key role in developing operational systems and educational initiatives that shaped the program's success nationwide. He has personally worked with hundreds of students and witnessed firsthand the powerful impact Mathnasium’s method has on building confidence and competence in math.
Chris believes math doesn’t have to be scary—for students or their families. Mathnasium breaks concepts down into simple language and visuals, helping students gain problem-solving and critical thinking skills that carry over into all areas of life. He’s seen this not only in his centers, but also with his own children who began their Mathnasium journey at a young age. Chris feels truly blessed to help students build strong math foundations and lifelong confidence.
