Mathnasium instructor so passionate she wears Shark Onesie for students during Shark Week!
For almost a year now the halls of Mathnasium of Benton/Bryant have been graced by the sparkling personality of 16-year-old instructor Abi Fogelman.
A charming girl, obsessed with her dog, Titan, who cares so much about her students, she can even be seen wearing a shark onesie to teach the kids during shark week.
If you ask Abi why she loves teaching at Mathnasium so much, it’s because she loves building relationships with the kiddos (her words) and helping to instill in them a love of math.
Abi is so vocal about her passion for Mathnasium that she has recruited three of her friends to be math instructors as well. Ally, Addison and Emma joined Mathnasium because they heard so much good stuff about the program simply because Abi could not stop talking about it!
Abi says it’s important to help kids get over their fear of math and see that it can actually be fun not evil.
This young instructor is wise beyond her years and is so in-tune with her students that she recalled an incident where the student came in in a bad mood. She knew he was in no frame of mind to take on a new challenge. So, thinking on her feet, Abi decided she would try to change his mood into one that was more receptive for learning.
She took out a deck of cards and asked him to play a game. The game was Multiplication Wars in which each person draws a card and they put it down quickly and the first person to multiply the two cards together and yell out the answer wins those cards.
The student smiled and laughed as the game got faster and faster and louder and louder His mood drastically improved and he won the game. At that point, Abi knew he would be ready to proceed with his math lessons for the day.
The insight of such a young instructor is amazing.
This is our Abi.
She is all about relationships and sharing her passion for math.
Thank you Abi for your commitment to our students!!
We are so proud of you!
