La Shawn Hart

Owner

La Shawn holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. in Finance from The Ohio State University. After a successful 20-year career in corporate finance, she turned her focus to education.

Driven by a desire to open doors for students, she uses her leadership at Mathnasium to help children gain a deeper understanding of math and build confidence through learning.

Tevin Leggs

Center Director

Tevin earned a B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science from Michigan Technological University. He joined Mathnasium in 2017, originally as a short-term role, but quickly found fulfillment in helping students succeed. 

He brings passion, knowledge, and leadership to his role, ensuring every student gets a personalized experience. Tevin is dedicated to making math less intimidating and more empowering for students of all levels.

Tyron

Assistant Center Director

Tyron is currently pursuing his degree at the University of Michigan–Dearborn. A lifelong math enthusiast, he was drawn to Mathnasium by his love of the subject. Tyron especially enjoys helping students succeed and says the best part of teaching is hearing how well they do on tests and quizzes after a session. His favorite topic to teach is Algebra, with a particular focus on solving equations. Outside of Mathnasium, Tyron enjoys playing basketball, gaming, and reading science fiction. A fun fact: he's left-handed!

Evan

Instructor

Evan holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Lawrence Technological University and has been tutoring students since 2010. He enjoys helping students grasp the “why” behind math, building both mastery and confidence.

He values Mathnasium’s individualized approach and loves seeing students return as instructors.
Favorite math joke: “2 + 2 = 5 for extremely high values of 2.”

Anthony

Instructor

Anthony graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University. He brings a passion for teaching and enjoys showing students the clarity and consistency math provides.

He especially enjoys teaching Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Outside the classroom, he spends time fixing things and applying hands-on problem-solving, much like he encourages students to do in their math learning.

Holly

Instructor

Holly is a graduate student from Cornell University's Graduate School of Medical Sciences, holding an M.S. degree.  Holly brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for mathematics to our Mathnasium team. Her favorite subject to teach is algebra, and she loves being able to perform quick calculations in her head. When she's not teaching, Holly enjoys playing pickleball and finding balance in life. 

A fun fact about Holly is that she's scared of speed, heights, and worms, but she approaches every challenge with her favorite math-related motto: "Life is a math equation. In order to gain the most, you have to know how to convert negatives into positives."

Deon

Instructor

Deon is a proud MBA graduate from Western Michigan University, bringing many years of tutoring and teaching experience to Mathnasium. Inspired by his passion for helping students excel in math, Deon is dedicated to seeing his students improve and reach their full potential. His favorite subject to teach is algebra, and he especially loves the moment when students have that "lightbulb" realization and truly grasp a concept. Outside of Mathnasium, Deon enjoys spending time with his family, working out, and watching sports. 

A fun fact about Deon is that he’s an excellent blackjack player. 

Deon lives by the math-related motto: "Mistakes allow thinking to happen."

Priyanka

Instructor

Priyanka holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor’s in Education. With over 11 years of teaching experience across subjects like Chemistry, Biology, Science, and Math, Priyanka was drawn to Mathnasium because of its unique approach to making math easier and more engaging for students while fostering their rational thinking skills. She especially enjoys watching students use critical thinking to solve problems and feel proud of their progress. Her favorite topics to teach include fractions, decimals, linear equations, prime and composite numbers, and algebra. Outside of Mathnasium, Priyanka loves traveling to explore new cultures, cooking, and watching movies in her free time.

Dallas

Instructor

Dallas is currently a high school student at Renaissance High School with a strong love for math and a passion for helping others learn. He was inspired to join Mathnasium through his enjoyment of tutoring friends and sharing his enthusiasm for mathematics. Dallas especially enjoys breaking down concepts by explaining why math works and how to apply it to different types of problems. His favorite subjects include Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Calculus. Outside of Mathnasium, Dallas enjoys learning more about math, reading, and watching movies and TV shows. He also sings in three choirs. His favorite math motto is: “Math shouldn’t teach you what to think, but how to think.”

Janan

Instructor

Janan is studying Architecture at Lawrence Technological University and has enjoyed math from a young age for its problem-solving and logical nature. Through Mathnasium, Janan enjoys sharing that passion by helping students understand math in a way that feels approachable and fun. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching for Janan is seeing students return to a topic feeling confident after initially struggling. Geometry is Janan’s favorite subject to teach because it blends creativity with logical thinking. Outside of Mathnasium, Janan enjoys crafting, cooking, and making things just for fun. Janan's favorite motto is: “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”

Caden

Instructor

Caden is studying Statistics at Wayne State University and enjoys helping students see how different areas of math connect to one another. He joined Mathnasium to grow as a tutor and learn how to better connect with a wide range of students. Caden loves showing students how each math concept builds on the last and believes math helps develop broader awareness and understanding beyond the classroom. His favorite topic to teach is calculus—especially derivatives—because of the powerful “aha” moments they create when ideas come together. Caden first began tutoring by helping friends during high school and found that teaching others deepened his own understanding as well. Outside of Mathnasium, he enjoys playing video games, working out, spending time with friends and family, and following sports like football and volleyball.

Malek

Instructor

Malek holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan–Dearborn and enjoys helping students build confidence in math, especially those who may have once struggled with the subject. He was drawn to Mathnasium for the rewarding experience of helping students grow to enjoy math and believe in their abilities. Malek enjoys teaching calculus, particularly limits and derivatives, and likes connecting with younger students by remembering his own experiences learning challenging topics. Outside of Mathnasium, Malek enjoys playing soccer, tennis, and pickleball. He also speaks three languages: English, French, and Arabic.

Jonathan

Instructor

Jonathan holds an Associate of Science degree from Oakland Community College and has a genuine love for math and teaching. He joined Mathnasium because he enjoys explaining concepts and helping students better understand how math works. Jonathan especially likes teaching algebra and calculus, where he can break down ideas and make challenging topics feel more approachable. Outside of Mathnasium, Jonathan enjoys playing video games and reading, and his favorite book series is The Stormlight Archive.

Shruthika

Instructor

Shruthika is a Troy High School graduate. She was drawn to Mathnasium by her love of working with children and making challenging concepts click. Her favorite topic to teach is fractions, which she loves for the many fun examples and real-life applications it offers. Shruthika believes that the moment a student truly understands something is the best part of teaching, and she sums up her love of math simply: "The cool thing about math is that there's always a right answer!" Outside of Mathnasium, she enjoys playing chess and is proud to have completed her entire K-12 education right here in Troy.
