What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?
I feel like making the center fun and inviting has allowed me to make a difference in every student who comes through the door. I was also a Mathnasium student when I was younger, so I can relate to the students who come into my center because I was in their shoes at one point. I went from hating math to majoring in it, teaching it, and now running a Math Learning Center. I am living proof that anyone can learn to love math!
What type of math do you enjoy teaching most?
I love fractions! Improper fractions, mixed numbers, converting between the two, and solving problems involving fractions!
How do you make learning math fun for students?
I build a rapport with every student I work with and make sure I’m explaining concepts in a way that makes sense to the student to avoid frustration. I know how good it feels to finally understand math concepts, so I let all of my students know that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Even if they’re struggling now, they all have the potential to be great mathematicians, and I don’t let them forget it!
