Tyler Buck

Center Director
I have taken math classes up to and including Calculus 1. I was part of the Ski Patrol in Park City and Salt Lake City Search & Rescue. I have ran a marathon and am currently enrolled in flight school at FLT Academy and a licensed pilot. I've visited 10 different countries, love to read & cook, love to off-road, camp & fly fish, and am a Manchester City fan. I also have worked for a program at the U of U called UFit. It's an after school program where I helped teach and exercise kids with mental disabilities. I enjoy skiing, hiking, fly fishing, camping, Astronomy and Cosmology, soccer, and running.

Fun Fact: I trekked to Mt. Everest basecamp.

Favorite Number, why?: 22 - it was my number growing up playing soccer and lacrosse.

Education: Arizona State University and University of Utah. Grad. 2018. Kinesiology, Bio and Chem

Why I love Mathnasium: I had a physics professor who chose to help me through my physics course outside of his normal teaching hours. His choice to help me one-on-one changed the entire course of my education. I wish to provide that same attention to students at Mathnasium and help them find their own passion for math.

Kassidy Shumway

Regional Operations Director
Kassidy Shumway grew up in Bountiful, Utah, and graduated from Brigham Young University in 2011. While at BYU, Kassidy earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering, was a TA in the math department, and also found time to be an All-American and a team captain and member of the BYU Women's Soccer Team. Kassidy has many years of experience coaching children of all ages in soccer. She has been helping students at Mathnasium since January 2013. Kassidy and her husband have two kids and two active dogs.

Fun Fact: I was in a video on YouTube with over 6 million views.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from BYU

Why I love Mathnasium: I love helping kids realize that math can be fun. The favorite part of my job is going into elementary schools and putting on Math Nights. Laughing and having fun with kids while we do math is so rewarding!

Reed Brown

Reed has always loved math and enjoys helping kids learn to love math and how to use math in their daily lives. Reed earned a BS of Electrical Engineering degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Business Administration degree at Boise State University. Reed has spent over 25 years as a successful engineering and operations executive at Hewlett Packard, Quantum, and Iomega. In 2004, he decided to test his entrepreneurial skills and created Matchbin (now Radiate Media), a successful internet software company. Over the last 10 years, Reed has been active in the Utah technology community. As a member of the Governor's Technology Initiative Advisory Board for the State of Utah, he has helped to grow funding for engineering programs at Utah Universities and Colleges. Reed and his team is committed to helping children grow their interest and confidence in math and prepare them for a successful college education and career in technology, business, finance, medical, manufacturing, science, biology, or other fields that require strong math skills.

Fun Fact: I decided to become an Electrical Engineer because of 8th-grade shop project making a DC motor

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from BYU and Masters of Business Administration degree from Boise State University

Niko Dawson

Assistant Center Director
Two of my favorite math classes I have taken are Calculus II and Econometrics. In high school, I played trumpet in the marching band. I have worked at Mathnasium since I was 16 years old (it was my first job!) and since then have always been tutoring in one form or another. On top of Mathnasium, I currently tutor in Statistics and Economics and am a TA for the Economics Department at Weber State University. The only thing I love more than reading is collecting books. I also enjoy writing, fashion, and all things music.

Fun Fact: I have aphantasia - I can't see images or hear words in my mind.

Favorite Number, why?: 17, it's the day I was born and it's half of my dad's favorite number.

Education: I am currently a Junior at Weber State University, and I'm majoring in Quantitative Economics with a minor in Mathematics!

Why I love Mathnasium: Math is something I have always loved. You get to experience the world from an entirely new perspective when you really understand the math you are being taught! Being able to show kids this new perspective and have them understand how fun math can actually be is one of the best feelings in the world.

Charbel Salloum

Lead Instructor
Charbel is currently taking AP Statistics and AP Calculus BC in high school. He is a part of the NSL youth council, many school clubs and does track and field and school as well as martial arts outside of school. Charbel has worked with other students in Karate helping the instructor train them. He loves to play video games, work out, and hang out with friends. Charbel also loves nature and enjoys drives and walks in nature.

Fun Fact: I am from Lebanon and can speak 3 languages, two of which I am fluent in.

Favorite Number: 9 is my favorite number because it pops up a lot in my life and it's some of my friend's favorite numbers. Also, I like 9 because it's the closest whole number to 10, but it's not 10.

Education: I am currently attending Woods Cross High School as a Junior, and will be graduating in 2023.

Why I love Mathnasium: Mathnasium can help me share a different view about math, and make more students like math or hate it less at the very least.

Abby Collins

Lead Instructor
I have taken a wide range of Math courses ranging from algebra to differential equations. I liked calculus the best! I was a part of the Science Olympiad team in high school, which I loved. I also was a member of National Honor Society. I worked in an elementary school with students kindergarten to 6th grade and I have tutored privately for about 4 years. I am currently working as a Learning Assistant for the University of Utah. I love reading and finding new places with good food!

Fun Fact: I speak Spanish and I am learning Korean, very slowly.

Favorite Number, why?: My favorite number is 4, I don't know why but I always choose it.

Education: I am currently at the University of Utah, in my senior year. I will graduate in Math.

Why I love Mathnasium: I love teaching math! It is what I've planned on doing for a long time.

Nathan Bagley

I've been a year ahead in math ever since 7th grade, and I've also taken Physics and college level Chemistry. I've been a Sophomore Spirit Class Officer at my high school, along with participating in District Band, All-State Choir, and performing in musicals. I have also been volunteering to teach kids ages 6-14 music for musicals, along with tutoring my peers in Math. I've recently gotten into writing music, both classical and Singer-Songwriter. I also love spending time with friends and family, especially the good old video games with the boys.

Fun Fact: My middle name is Nofear.

Favorite Number, why?: 7, representing completion.

Education: I'm currently attending Viewmont High School as a Sophomore, graduating in 2025.

Why I love Mathnasium: Mathnasium has two of the things which I love and I'm good at: Math and Teaching. I'd also like to reduce the hate for math, and potentially help kids see math through a different perspective.

Tate Keddington

I’m in the accelerated math program at Woods Cross Highschool. I just finished Secondary Math 3 Honors. I love to play soccer. I’ve played for both the highschool team and for a club, recently winning an international tournament. I’m also in French club trying to learn more about the language. I love watching and playing sports, along with spending time with my friends. I practice soccer almost every day, often with other people. I also like to bowl, going every other week or so.

Fun Fact: I love How to Train Your Dragon. It’s one of my favorite movies, Toothless being my favorite character.

Favorite Number, why?: 8. It rhymes with Tate, it’s been my favorite since kindergarten. It also represents August, being the 8th month of the year and my birth month.

Education: I go to school at Woods Cross Highschool. I’m a sophomore and will graduate in 2025.

Why I love Mathnasium: I love math and problem solving. I want to help students learn their potential in math and find confidence in their abilities.

Hannah Johnson

I took Calculus 1 & 2 and the prerequisites in high school, and Calculus 3 and physics in college. I'm currently taking Applied Statistics, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Math. Growing up, I danced competitively both for a dance studio and for my high school. I led my high school team as a captain my junior and senior years. I was also an active member of my school's Math Club! Every year we would host a fundraiser called "Pi a nerd" and students could pay to throw pie at a math teacher. I was also a part of the yearbook staff in junior high and high school and held the editor position at both schools. Now I teach dance at a local dance studio! In high school, I volunteered in an after-school study program hosted by my high school. The library would be open after school for students who needed help with homework or a quiet place to study. I was one of the tutors so anyone who needed some extra help could come and ask questions. I love to dance! I also like shopping, thrifting, reading, and cooking!

Fun Fact: I take pi day very seriously and consider it a very important holiday.

Favorite Number, why?: I love the number 0 because it is the exception in so many different situations in math!

Education: I went to Borah high school in Boise, Idaho and graduated in 2020. I'm currently a sophomore at the University of Utah studying applied mathematics with an advanced financial analysis minor. I will graduate in 2026

Why I love Mathnasium: I have always loved math but many people don't and I think it gets a bad rap. I hope that I can help those who come to Mathnasium see that math isn't all bad. It can actually be super fun and rewarding!

Lily Freebairn

I’ve taken everything up to secondary two math (10th grade math) and am currently taking secondary three (11th grade math). I play lacrosse for the woods cross high team and am currently a president of the Spanish club. I’m a member of bountiful city youth council and national honor society. I've also worked with kids in babysitting roles and as a volunteer in orphanages for two weeks while on a trip to Ecuador. I love to play piano and read in my free time.

Fun Fact: A fun fact about me is that I’ve been to 8 countries.

Favorite Number, why?: My favorite number is phi, I just think it’s so cool that one number can be associated with so much of the natural world!

Education: I go to school at Woods Cross High School and am currently in 10th grade.

Why I love Mathnasium: I like Mathnasium because the environment of everyone there is an amazing place to learn math. It’s not very often that you see kids so excited to learn!

Millie Oscarson

I've taken Math Honors courses every year and I just recently finished College Algebra 1050. I am an officer for National Honors Society. Also, I'm a varsity captain for WX volleyball. Currently, I am a part of the yearbook staff which has been such an adventure! I can fluently speak Mandarin Chinese and tutored kids in Chinese. I am an avid skier and love to be around people. If you ever don't know where I am, I am probably travelling. I adore travelling and exploring new places. Often I enjoy spending time inside with a book but also love being outside.

Fun Fact: I have been to 4 out of the 7 continents.

Favorite Number, why?: My favorite number is 8 because it's a lucky number in Chinese culture. 8 is also the infinity symbol when you turn it sideways, plus it's just super fun to write.

Education: I am a Senior at Woods Cross High School. I'll graduate in 2024.

Why I love Mathnasium: Math was my least favorite subject in elementary but as I've taken more math classes I discovered that it isn't as bad as it seems. I love working at Mathnasium because I am able to help kids find the fun in math and a reason to not hate their math homework.

Isaiah Holland

I've taken honors math my entire life and I'm currently in honors math at Farmington High school. I love soccer and basketball, and I'm also a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I've tutored peers, siblings, and neighbors privately in a variety of subjects including math. I love to play soccer and basketball. I also love to play Saxophone.

Fun Fact: I have a Second Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do

Favorite Number, why?: My favorite number is 27 because that's my uniform number for sports and I was born on the 27th of August.

Education: I am soon to be a Junior at Farmington High School.

Why I love Mathnasium: I get to hang out with a bunch of cool kids and do math!
