Q: What is the first thing a brand new student does at your center?
A: When a new student arrives for their first session they have already completed a comprehensive assessment. During their first session they will decorate their binder spine, go through a brief orientation and get started working on their individualized learning plan.
Q: What is the comprehensive assessment? How long does it take to finish?
A: The comprehensive assessment has two parts. During the first portion we conduct a verbal assessment to learn how the student thinks about math and to make sure we give them the appropriate level of written assessment. The second portion is a written assessment which will help us pinpoint the student's areas of strength and the concepts they need our help learning. This assessment allows us to create a learning plan that is indivialized for each child who comes through our doors.
Q: How often should I bring my student to Mathnasium of Broken Arrow?
A: Ideally, your child should attend at least two sessions per week in order to make steady progress in their learning plan.
Q: Who are the people teaching my child?
A: Our instructors have quite a range of backgrounds, each coming to us with their own unique strengths. We have former, current and retired teachers who work for us. We also have a retired engineer at our center. The students love working with all of us, but they really enjoy working with our college aged instructors and our "cream of the crop" high school aged instructors. All of our instructors receive in depth training in the Mathnasium method of instruction before working with our students.
Q: When can I bring my child into Mathnasium of Broken Arrow?
A: We allow families to pick schedules that work for their busy lives. We utilize an online scheduling platform which allows parents to decide what days and times their children will attend. We are open for instruction on Sundays from 1 pm to 5 pm and Monday through Thursday from 3 pm to 8 pm. During the summer we open earlier on weekdays.
Q: How do you motivate your students at Mathnasium of Broken Arrow?
A: We work hard to make learning fun for the students who attend our center. We play math games with them which allows them to interact with other students and gets them to use what they are learning in a way that is more fun for them. We have a reward cabinet with different levels of rewards they can choose from once they complete a predetermined amount of work. We also celebrate their achievements in and out of math class with our brag board. Students who earn an A on a math test have the priviledge of earnin our "Nerd Award". We give them an award along with a Nerd candy rope.
