We are the Owners and Center Directors at Mathnasium of Buford and owners of Mathnasium of Athens. Each day, we make it our goal to ensure that students have an effective, engaging and encouraging learning experience that cultivates an intuitive understanding of math. We do this by selecting highly trained instructors who are passionate about math, maintaining the best environment for learning and always staying positive. At Mathnasium, we offer the tools to help young learners improve critical math skills and understanding, regardless of their current ability level. Stuart has a background in education where he worked with students with Extreme Behavior Disorders and Autism. Lauren has a degree in Mathematics and has taught Geometry and Calculus for Gwinnett County Public Schools. Together, we have been running Mathnasium of Buford for over a decade and have had the privilege of witnessing the Mathnasium program truly change hundreds of kids' lives. In our free time, we love cooking, hiking, and gardening with our three children - Hadley, Tom, and Nora. We also have three dogs named Beans, Tina, and Jack who require lots of snuggles. We love Mathnasium, because we love the transformative impact of helping kids realize that they CAN learn math when given the proper tools and support, and we love creating an environment where students feel comfortable, cared about, and confident!
Aspen is a Middle Grades Education major at the University of North Georgia who moved here last year from Utah. In her free time, she enjoys painting and skating. In five years she sees herself starting her teaching career. Aspen loves Mathnasium because, "I get to help kids understand math and see when it clicks for them and they get excited about learning."
Julia is now a freshman at UGA, and she was valedictorian of the 2024 senior class at Buford High School. At Buford she was in Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Student Council, Tri M Society, Beta Club, and Mu Alpha Theta. (WOW!!!!) Although she may not have much free time, she does enjoy reading, crochet, and playing the flute whenever she gets a chance. Julia loves math because "there’s always one right answer to the problem, no matter what. It is entirely objective, and there is a set way to get to the answer every time. Also, it is universally applicable - math is a language all on its own, able to be understood by anyone." In five years Julia plans to be attending UGA and pursuing a major in either education, math, or both! She also hopes to join one of UGA's music programs. Fun Fact - Julia's birthday is on Pi Day!! "I love Mathnasium because students are able to learn math completely separate from their schoolwork, practicing concepts that they may have never seen before. I love seeing improvements in the same students every time they come in, whether that be in attitude or skills or both. I love getting to meet new people and share my interest in math with others."
Eshaan is an incredibly gifted student at Buford High School where he is in Mu Alpha Theta and HOSA. In his free time he also enjoys playing tennis. Eshaan loves math, because, "It develops lots of essential everyday skills that can be applied in various real-world situations", and in five years he plans to be pursuing a degree in computer science or mathematics. His favorite fun fact is "If there are 23 people in the same room, there is a 50% chance of at least 2 people having the same birthday!" Eshaan loves Mathnasium, because "we have a friendly environment, make math exciting and easy to learn, and help students achieve success in school."
Anthony is an incredibly gifted senior at Mountain View High School, and he is also dual-enrolled at Georgia Tech. He is in the marching band and jazz band and in the Mountain View Robotics club. In his free time, he enjoys coding, video games, and board games, and he loves math simply because "it's beautiful"! In 5 years, Anthony plans to be graduating from GA Tech with a masters in computer science and working in AI. His favorite number is pi, and he loves Mathnasium because "[he] really loves the curriculum and testing design and how concepts are taught".
