Q: What is the first thing a new student would do upon entering Mathnasium?
A: As soon as a student enters for their first session, they should see their name on our welcome board and glass window! They are greeted, and taught how to sign in and where their binder will be when they come back!
Q: What does the first session look like for new students?
A: A student's first day at Mathnasium is such a special day! Once greeted upon entering the center, the Center Director or Assistant Center Director will bring the student their very own binder! It's time for the student to learn where to sign in on the Ipad and where we keep our binders!
Then, we welcome the student to the instructional floor. Students are welcome to sit wherever they'd like! We make sure they know where we keep our pencils, scratch paper, erasers, and extra manipulatives that they have easy access to!
The next step is for the instructors to come by and introduce themselves as the student is creating their unique binder spine!
The assistant director or lead instructor then circles back to show the student how we will sign them in and where to find their math pages in their binder! They also learn about goal setting and our awesome reward program.
As the session is wrapping up, the instructor will show the students our game area! At the end of their first session, we show them how to sign out and then we put their binders away!
Q: Have you seen a student’s attitude towards math change?
A: Yes! One of our 5th grade students used to struggle with grade level math, but now, she loves it and even helps her friends catch up in class. She has advanced to accelerated math and loves feeling challenged!
Another elementary school student used to “shut down” within 5 minutes of completing math at home. After she came in for her free assessment, she left excited about Math and now looks forward to coming each week, so much that she wishes to stay for two hours!
All of these incredible moments are a direct reflection of our amazing instructors!
Q: What do you wish students and parents knew before they brought their student to your center?
A: A wish for future families that enroll in Mathnasium is that no one is ever stuck where they are. It is our job to figure out where math stopped making sense and begin to fill in the gaps. We are here to help them at wherever they are, to build a lifelong confidence in themselves and to be able to try anything. Yes, we are math-experts here, but we are also a family. We are here to support our students and help set them up for success that trickles into all subjects!
