Betsy Washburn

Betsy Washburn

Owner/Center Director
Betsy grew up in Glendale, Arizona, and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Management from Arizona State University. In 1995, Betsy moved to Southeast Missouri where she obtained her teaching certificate and began teaching junior high and high school mathematics. Betsy has 11 years classroom experience in teaching mathematics and has a passion for helping students find success in math. Betsy has also earned a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governor’s University. While in Kansas City, Missouri, Betsy was lucky to be the Center Director for Mathnasium of Blue Valley, a very successful center in Overland Park, KS. This experience fueled a strong passion for the Mathnasium method and helping students make sense of math. Betsy has two grown children, Cole and Riley. They, as a family, recently returned to the Phoenix area and love it. In her spare time, Betsy loves to read, travel, spend time with her family.

Tammie Yoakum

Hello, my name is Tammie Yoakum, and I grew up in Glendale with my sister/co-owner, Betsy. Before I started working in the center fulltime, I had a 30-year career in the premium finance industry. I was blessed to have that career, but Mathnasium is a ton more fun. The best part of being at Mathnasium is to see the "aha" moments and to see a students confidence grow. When I'm not working, I like spending time with my family and friends. I also love music, movies, reading and traveling.

Austin Robare

Assistant Center Director
Hi, my name is Austin! I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and moved to Arizona in the summer of 2018. I graduated from the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Science with a degree in Audio Engineering. My strongest loves in life (aside from my family and friends) are math, science and music. I found audio engineering is a fun way to combine all three. Math has been my favorite subject since I was a kid and I have always loved working with kids. I find it very inspiring and fulfilling to help younger generations gain the knowledge and tools that are so deeply important and prevalent throughout their lives. Consequently, Mathnasium is the perfect fit!

Sophia Herget

Hello! My name is Sophia, and I'm currently a Senior at Xavier College Preparatory High School. I am on the cheer team there too. I'm also a big fan of any math and sciences! Outside of school, I love music, reading and baking!

Keir Bradshaw

Hello, my name is Keir Bradshaw and I am currently studying full-stack web development through ASU. I have always enjoyed math and I hope to share that with the students here at Mathnasium. In my free time, I like to play games with my friends and watch the Suns/Cardinals anytime they are playing!

Nandini Gopalakrishnan

Hi! My name is Nandini and I am currently a Senior at Desert Mountain High School. I've always enjoyed math and it is my favorite subject. I really like teaching math and I hope to make a lasting impact on everyone who comes to Mathnasium. In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing tennis, and spending time with friends and family.

Alexis Muirhead

Hello! My name is Alexis and I am a Senior at Xavier College Preparatory. I am so excited to work at Mathnasium and share my love of math to others. In my free time, I enjoy riding horses, reading, and listening to music.

Matt Raffaele

Hi! My name is Matt and I'm a sophomore at Cactus Shadows High School. This is my first year at Mathnasium and I am excited to continue helping others in math. Outside of Mathnasium, I enjoy video games and hanging out with friends.

Ryan Delmarter

Hello! My name is Ryan Delmarter, and I am currently a Senior at Pinnacle High School. I have always had a passion for math, and working as an instructor at Mathnasium is a great opportunity to share my passion with others. I also love animals, basketball, and anything competitive with my friends.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
