Q: What is the first thing a brand new student does at your center?
A: Gets a tour of our center with a focus on the Reward Cabinets and seeing all the collaboration between instructors and students.
Q: What is the comprehensive assessment? How long does it take to finish?
A: A comprehensive assessment may take between 75-90 minutes. We first have a conversation with the student (a verbal assessment) to determine their math comfort levels and confidence. We use that to identify which written level assessment to administer and also if they would benefit from our numerical fluency curriculum.
Q: How often should I bring my student to Mathnasium of Cedar Rapids?
A: 2 times a week, up to 9 times a month with flexible scheduling
Q: Who are the people teaching my child?
A: Jeanne Giles (Owner and Center Director since 2010), Kelly Alexman (Assistant Center Director and Instructor since 2011) and Dustin Snodgress (Assistant Center Director and Instructor since 2014 are all active in regular student interactions. Katie Sulek and Jerry Stack are both engineers by education but enjoy the impact they have working with students. Katie also just completed her teaching degree and is joining our staff full time. Matt Krambeer (multitude of degrees) has been instructing here since 2018. Halas is completing his math degree this year and joined our staff in August 2022. After working with students he may return for a teaching degree. Jackson Alexman, Meredith Beer and Reagan Stock areour high school instructors. They are all in advanced math classes. Meredith was a student for 7 years before becoming an instructor.
Q: When can I bring my child into Mathnasium of Cedar Rapids?
A: We are open 6 days a week. Monday - Thursday 3:15-7:45, Saturdays 11:15-3:15 and Sundays 3:15-7:15. We offer flexible self-scheduling.
Q: How do you motivate your students at Mathnasium of Cedar Rapids?
A: We share our passion for math! Daily math activities, monthly contests, Quarterly drawings and of course, the reward cabinet.
