Liz Olsen

Regional Director

Liz has been with Mathnasium for five years, starting as a Center Director and now serving as a Regional Director. She is passionate about creating fun, welcoming learning environments where students feel excited to learn math and build confidence through personalized instruction. Liz has spent most of her life working with children through math instruction, sports coaching, swim lessons, and summer camps.

Liz believes success in math starts with confidence and perseverance, and she loves watching students grow from feeling discouraged to believing in themselves. Outside of Mathnasium, Liz enjoys cheering on the Utah Utes, watching sports, spending time with her husband and daughter, reading, skiing, snowboarding, and golfing.

Kassidy Shumway

Director of Operations / Co-Owner

Kassidy Shumway grew up in Bountiful, Utah, and graduated from Brigham Young University in 2011. While at BYU, Kassidy earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering, was a TA in the math department, and also found time to be an All-American and a team captain and member of the BYU Women's Soccer Team. Kassidy has many years of experience coaching children of all ages in soccer. She has been helping students at Mathnasium since January 2013. Kassidy and her husband have two kids and two active dogs.

Fun Fact: I was in a video on YouTube with over 6 million views.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from BYU

Why I love Mathnasium: I love helping kids realize that math can be fun. My favorite part of my job is going into elementary schools and putting on Math Nights. Laughing and having fun with kids while we do math is so rewarding!

Clint Brown

CEO / Owner

Clint Brown spent the first 16+ years of his career working in marketing and advertising. From the small software start up to the $100M advertising agency, Clint has helped companies of various sizes grow and succeed. Clint has been involved with Mathnasium for several years and loves the rewarding experience of helping kids of all ages build math confidence.
Clint currently resides in Utah with his wife and 3 kids. Clint loves being in the outdoors hiking, canyoneering, skiing and more. He enjoys watching college football and cheering on the football team from the University of Utah.

Fun Fact: Clint summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. Which reaches an elevation of 19,341'. 

Education: Clint holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the College of Engineering at the University of Utah.

Why I love Mathnasium: Helping kids realize that they can do math is one of the most rewarding things I've had the opportunity to experience in my career. Seeing a student gain confidence in their ability to do math can be life changing and working at Mathnasium allows me to see that happen every day. 

Reed Brown

Owner

Reed has always loved math and enjoys helping kids learn to love math and how to use math in their daily lives. Reed earned a BS of Electrical Engineering degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Business Administration degree at Boise State University. Reed has spent over 25 years as a successful engineering and operations executive at Hewlett Packard, Quantum, and Iomega. In 2004, he decided to test his entrepreneurial skills and created Matchbin (now Radiate Media), a successful internet software company. Over the last 10 years, Reed has been active in the Utah technology community. As a member of the Governor's Technology Initiative Advisory Board for the State of Utah, he has helped to grow funding for engineering programs at Utah Universities and Colleges. Reed and his team is committed to helping children grow their interest and confidence in math and prepare them for a successful college education and career in technology, business, finance, medical, manufacturing, science, biology, or other fields that require strong math skills.

Fun Fact: I decided to become an Electrical Engineer because of 8th-grade shop project making a DC motor

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from BYU and Masters of Business Administration degree from Boise State University

Brenna May

Instructor

Brenna is a junior at the University of Denver studying Emergent Digital Practices with a minor in French. A former AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics student, she’s made the Dean’s List and led the Tri-M Music Honor Society.  

Outside of Mathnasium, Brenna enjoys video games, cooking, and was a competitive Irish dancer for nearly 10 years. Her favorite number is 10, the base of our number system and her birthday. 

Kaden Wilson

Instructor

I've taken Calculus1-4, Probability, Algebra 1&2, and Pre Calculus. I've worked as a math tutor during my entire time at college. I enjoy playing video games and going on occasional walks through the neighborhood, as well as reading.

Fun Fact: I've known how to whistle since I was a little kid.

Favorite Number, Why?: 7, because it is always associated with luck.

Education: I went to Colorado State University Pueblo, Where I recently Graduated With a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering, along with a Minor in Mathematics. My Major Was Mechatronics Engineering.

Why I Like Mathnasium: I enjoy helping people, and any opportunity to do so is enjoyable for me.

Matthew Wheelis

Instructor

I have taken College Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Calculus 3 (currently taking). I often help my siblings as well as classmates study and learn complex math that they may be struggling with. I enjoy playing guitar and piano, stargazing with my telescope, and reading physics books.

Fun Fact: I am completely self taught in guitar and piano. No one else in my family can play any instruments.

Favorite Number, Why?: My favorite number is actually π because it is an irrational number and a constant. I find it interesting that π goes on infinitely and never repeats itself as well as being used in almost every aspect of nature.

Education: I go to school at Arapahoe Community College and am working through my third year. I am a Chemistry major and I plan to receive my transfer degree in spring of 2026. After I transfer, my goal is to finish my Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and start working towards a PhD in Astrophysics at CU Boulder.

Why I like Mathnasium: I enjoy helping others learn math and find a sense of passion in it. I also believe that in return of helping others learn, it may grant me a larger perspective on the topic. I am a very logic minded individual and I believe that helping others learn about the subjects I’m passionate about will bring me some happiness and satisfaction.
