Math Mind Monday: Realtor

Remember math is used in almost every career! It's so wonderful to gather insight on just how important it is to get help for young students now if they are struggling. No student should miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime or career of their dreams because they were worried about that "dreaded" math course in college.

Today’s Monday Math Mind is Ricci Taylor! Ricci received her Bachelor’s degree in Communications in 2010. Fast forward to present day she can proudly say she is a Realtor in Denver Colorado at Keller Williams. Ricci took the realtor business to the next step and owns her own Home Staging and Interior Design Company as well. I took a moment to speak with her about how she uses math in her career as a Realtor. See what she had to say!

“If a day goes by that I don’t use math, check my pulse. I use math daily! Some primary examples include: producing CMS’s and home estimates for sellers, pulling comparable buyers, calculating price per square foot of a home, negotiating contracts and home staging consults and estimates. Just to name a few."

When asking Ricci what advice she had for students struggling with math she commented, “I struggled with math horribly when I was young. I was not a natural while the rest of my family could be named math geniuses. My dad said something that really resonated with me and helped me through my math classes. He said, math is the only thing that is the same “language” worldwide. Learn it. Understand it. Use it. I would tell youth that struggle the same thing. Learn math now. Understand it now. Because you will use it forever." (Ricci Taylor, personal communication,  November 7th, 2018)
