Elis earned her teaching degree and thrives on helping children feel successful at school. As a teenager, Elis created an after-school program for students who wanted to improve their math skills or needed extra tutoring. She also volunteered at her church, teaching catechism to children and helping the clergy. After 20 years in the corporate workforce, volunteering at schools, and working with diverse people in Brazil, Thailand and the U.S., Elis decided to dedicate herself to her family. She is especially proud of helping her children during their formative years, which made her realize the importance of developing strong fundamentals in children early on. She is enthusiastic to use her personal and professional experience to help children succeed at the Mathnasium Center. Elis and Ioannis have two beautiful children together.

Ioannis’ prior responsibilities were corporate finance and operations both in the U.S. and internationally. He also enjoyed helping family and friends with math, mentoring elementary-school Odyssey of the Mind teams, and coaching elementary- and middle-school aged football (soccer) teams. Ioannis then decided to invest in Mathnasium, where the method is designed to transform each student’s math life, either by making math make sense, or providing the extra challenge, enhancing their critical thinking skills. The Mathnasium of Chapel Hill Instructor Team
The Mathnasium of Chapel Hill math instructor team is passionate about math education and math tutoring. Our passion to inspire children, fused with our knowledge of math, creates extraordinary experiences for our students. We make math make sense. We make math fun!
The process to become a member of the Mathnasium of Chapel Hill instructor team includes:
• All of our math instructors go through an extensive interview process which includes an evaluation of their ability to work with students. It's one thing to be knowledgeable in math, but we ensure our instructors have the ability to breakdown and teach math to students in elementary, middle and high school.
• After successfully completing the interview, instructors must then pass a math test to validate their math resume.
• Before officially being hired, Mathnasium of Chapel Hill instructors go through a background check.
• Upon joining the team, our math instructors go through a comprehensive training process which includes understanding the Mathnasium Method, best practices in math education, techniques for successful math tutoring, and proven strategies for working with students of different abilities to create a personalized math tutoring session. Whether the student is advanced and gifted, on level and needs help staying there, or needs help catching up, our instructors are trained to ensure children have a successful productive experience at Mathnasium of Chapel Hill.
Our instructor team is made up of individuals who have earned their college master's degree, recent college graduates, currently studying at local colleges, current High School teachers, current College professors, and professionals who are seeking to share their love of math and spend time after their full-time jobs working with students at Mathnasium of Chapel Hill.
