Howdy, I'm Luke Coughlin. I struggled in primary school and subsequently in high school as well. I even had to attend what I liked to call "bonus school". I (really my parents) sought outside help, with regular sessions at a learning center. I'm so glad they did because I had felt so confused during my school's classes and the sessions gave me the attention and care I needed to understand the material. Breaking this confusion cycle early was a major contributing factor for me changing my tune, and becoming deeply invested in understanding the language of all things, Mathematics. I tutored while earning my associate's degree in Mathematics at Harrisburg Area Community College then because I can't leave academic stones unturned, I continued enrolling in courses such that I could complete the computer science program as well. I took the last of my extra courses at the end of 2019 and enrolled in an online Data Science course for what was supposed to be only the start of 2020. While tutoring at HACC, I understood and explained many areas of mathematics well to many students. I began to seek answers on how to better educate others in mathematics and began researching the topic thoroughly- even to this day. This research continues and is discussed than implemented daily through our team’s interactions with our students. I hope to pursue my formal studies in the future, to better help our students understand working with numbers.
