Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Sean P

Center Manager

Sean recently graduated from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management and is currently applying to law school. With a passion for math and a strong academic background, including a 790 on the SAT Math section and a degree from Regis High School, Sean is excited to help students build confidence and succeed.

When he’s not at Mathnasium, you’ll likely find him by the water, watching sports, or sharing a great math pun. One favorite? “Why did the obtuse angle go to the beach? Because it was over 90 degrees.”

Nick Hager

Senior Instructor

Nick is pursuing a master’s degree in mathematics education at the University at Buffalo, where he also earned his bachelor’s in mathematics. He was valedictorian of Lindenhurst High School and received the Outstanding Senior Award in Math at UB.

Nick enjoys helping students build confidence in their math skills and celebrates every milestone with them. Outside of Mathnasium, he likes to hike, run, and enjoy the outdoors. Fun fact: he can jump rope on a pogo stick!

Alyssa Pascale

Instructor

Alyssa is a high honor roll student at Commack High School who has always loved math. She has consistently worked two years ahead of grade level and brings strong problem-solving skills and enthusiasm to her sessions at Mathnasium.

Alyssa has won several awards, including a perfect PSAT score (1520), a Gold Medal in the Long Island Math Fair, and Outstanding Math Student of the Year. She’s also an artist, pianist, and black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Her favorite math joke? “Not all math puns are terrible, just sum.”

Jorge Soto

Instructor

Jorge holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Psychology, with a minor in Biology. He currently works as a business administrator in the Huntington School District and brings deep STEM and finance experience to Mathnasium.

A lifelong learner and teacher, Jorge loves helping students uncover math connections in everyday life. He also runs a local chess club and enjoys Monopoly and other strategy games. One quote that resonates with him? “...the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.” – Isaac Newton

Savvy Dusad

Instructor

Savvy is a junior at Hauppauge High School with a strong passion for math and science. She participates in various STEM-related extracurriculars and loves tutoring students across grade levels.

Her goal at Mathnasium is to help students gain confidence in math by teaching in ways that make sense to them. Outside of school, Savvy enjoys swimming, dancing, painting, and drawing, combining creativity with problem-solving every day.

Ken Tiu

Curriculum Mentor

Ken opened the first Mathnasium center in the state of New York in 2007. He has a background in business and science education.

All through high school and college Ken traveled and competed in windsurfing events around the country. After college he worked in the action sports industry while obtaining a masters degree in education. Ken taught middle and high school physics for 9 years and ran a successful competitive robotics team. In 2007 he was named the Suffolk County Science Teacher of the year.

Ken believes that a strong background in math is essential to be competitive in the global marketplace. If the US is to keep its competitive edge as a world innovator it must commit to improving math and science literacy among its population. Math is a challenging subject to teach to large groups of students since people think and work at different paces.

Mathnasium allows students to work at their own pace in a low pressure environment with individualized help.

Ken's wifeAmy, also an educator, assists in running the center. She has taught children of all ages since 1993. In her spare time she volunteers for the Guide Dog Foundation as a puppy walker, fundraiser, and speaker. Ken and Amy welcome the opportunity to help the children in the Commack community develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed.

Whether students are struggling, advanced, or anywhere in between Mathnasium will deliver results!!!
