Lead Instructor
Emily is a recent graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Actuarial Science. She has tutored students from preschool through calculus for over five years, both formally and informally.
Passionate about helping students gain skills and confidence, Emily believes math is a learned skill that anyone can master. She looks forward to creating a stress-free learning experience for every student she works with.
Lori W.
Lead Instructor
Lori began tutoring in junior high, sparking a lifelong love for teaching. She studied at the University of Michigan and became a certified teacher, spending 15 years teaching high school math in southwestern Michigan and another 15 years in Colorado.
After moving back home to care for her mother, Lori found a welcoming place at Mathnasium. She enjoys helping students discover that math can be accessible and rewarding.
Fred
Instructor
Fred brings more than 30 years of math teaching experience to Mathnasium, having taught at Stevenson High School and Schoolcraft College. He holds multiple advanced degrees, including an M.A. in Math and an MBA from EMU, and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from U of M-Dearborn.
Though recently retired from full-time teaching, Fred couldn’t resist continuing to share his love for math. He especially enjoys teaching Geometry’s conditional statements for their real-world logic applications. Outside the classroom, Fred is a seasoned tennis coach, chess player, and boater who still plays doubles every Sunday night—a tradition since 1981!
Naomi
Instructor
Naomi is currently pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science at Michigan State University. She was inspired to join Mathnasium by her younger brother's experience as a student here — watching him come home excited to show off everything he'd learned made her want to bring that same joy to other students. Naomi loves that lightbulb moment when everything just clicks for a student, and particularly enjoys teaching discrete math for its logical and analytical nature. Outside of Mathnasium, Naomi enjoys watching movies and discussing them with friends, and is an avid pin and button collector.
Mallory
Instructor
Mallory is currently finishing her high school diploma at Walled Lake Northern, with plans to attend Michigan State University in the fall. She was drawn to Mathnasium by her love of working with kids and making a difference, and brings about a year of teaching experience to her role. Mallory especially loves helping students notice patterns in math and particularly enjoys teaching fractions. Outside of Mathnasium, she enjoys crocheting, knitting, and playing tennis — and at home, she has a 10-pound shih-tzu puppy named Gigi!
Matthew
Instructor
Matthew is a high school student with plans to pursue a degree in cybersecurity. Matthew's favorite part of teaching is the transformation that happens when a student who once struggled to connect with math discovers a genuine love for it. He especially enjoys teaching linear and quadratic equations for their logical, step-by-step nature. Outside of Mathnasium, Matthew enjoys reading, baking with his sister, exercising, and spending time with his family. A fun fact: he's a big fan of Charles M. Schulz's "Peanuts" comic. His favorite quote is from Thomas Edison: "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
