Q1: ๐ก What is the most rewarding part of working with Mathnasium students?
A: To me, the most rewarding part of working at Mathnasium is getting to see the students' progression over time. When students first come in, many tend to be shy and timid about asking questions. I love watching the kids get comfortable and confident in both their math skills and their social interactions.
Q2: ๐ What is one math tip or trick you often share with students?
A: One math trick I often share with students is to use real world applications. When I teach subtraction to younger students, I like to explain things in terms of cookies or toys, ultimately helping them process these new and different terms.
Q3: ๐ What qualities do you see in students who make the most progress at Mathnasium?
A: I have noticed that the students who make the most progress at Mathnasium aren't always the textbook focused and quiet kids. The students that make the most progress are the ones that are not afraid to ask questions and use the resources available to them. Students that come in ready to learn and utilize the help around them find the most success at Mathnasium!
Q4: ๐ฅ If you could give parents one piece of advice before bringing their child to Mathnasium, what would it be?
A: If I could give parents one piece of advice before bringing their child to Mathnasium, I would tell them to trust the Mathnasium process and have patience. It takes each one different amounts of time and instruction to get settled in and to start showing progression. Our instructors know that showing patience is very important for the students on their learning path, and patience from parents is just as important. With consistency and commitment to Mathnasium, the students will show much progress and growth.
Q5: ๐ฏ What is your favorite teaching method or tool at Mathnasium?
A: My favorite teaching tools at Mathnasium are the whiteboard tables. I love having the space to help students visualize their math problems. Being able to write and draw on the tables makes learning much easier and more enjoyable for students. It also gives instructors the opportunity to help kids process math problems in different ways, especially since we are aware that all kids learn differently.
