Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Sam

Center Director

I am about as nerdy as you can imagine, but simultaneously I consider myself pretty well rounded. I have a great love for math and physics. My dream job would be to do research and development on Quantum Computers. I like to stay active, whether it be rock climbing or hanging out with my friends. In my free time I find myself playing a lot of video games or pondering the mysteries of the universe.

How far have you gone in your math studies: I’ve taken up through Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations

If you were a cartoon, which one would you be and why?
I think I would be BMO from Adventure Time. They’re a living video game console/computer.

What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?
Mole mole is that weird but it was not what I was expecting!

What do you do to have fun?
I like to play video games, go rock climbing, and play guitar.

What's your biggest pet peeve?
When people call themselves stupid or just acquiesce to say that they’re “just bad” at something.

If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?
Time.

What’s your favorite “math” joke?
A man was attending a pi eating contest, but halfway through his second pi he stopped, looked around, and said, “This is irrational.”

I love Mathnasium because…
It’s a true pleasure to get to meet so many families and make an impact in their lives, whether that be giving an already successful student the fuel for their fire that they want, or helping a student that’s struggling catch up to their true potential.

Noah

Center Director

I am a student at UCO studying Electrical Engineering with the goal of working in the Astronautical field! I love everything space and am very excited at the prospect of participating in the start of our expansion beyond the Earth. While I’m still down here on our home planet, I’m keeping myself busy with providing a Math education for both myself and the students I work with. On top of managing the center, I’m also working on research through UCO’s math department to analyze Electrocardiogram data!

How far have you gone in your math studies: Minor in Mathematics, additional work in Numerical Linear Algebra, and various mathematical concepts in upper division electrical engineering classes.

If you were a cartoon, which one would you be and why?
Probably R2-D2 from the Star Wars cartoons! I just really relate to their bubbly attitude and large vocabulary.

What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?
Kimchi! I would not label myself as an adventurous eater, so even that was quite a leap for myself. Turns out I’m a fan!

What do you do to have fun?
I enjoy challenging myself, whether it’s through a physical activity like rock climbing or a mental activity like challenging video games!

What's your biggest pet peeve?
When I ask someone to close the door and they leave it open when they exit!

If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?
Unlimited genies for unlimited wishes!

What’s your favorite “math” joke?
How many mathematicians does it task to screw in a light bulb? This problem is trivial and has been left as an exercise for the reader.

I love Mathnasium because…
Mathnasium allows the opportunity to cultivate a learning environment not pressured by deadlines or expectations. Students are able to develop at their own pace, and can grow regardless of what their history with the subject was!
