Adults and kids have good days and bad days. Think about it... even as an Adult, there are times when you just can't seem to get motivated no matter what, Imagine you're a young student and you have no choice but to go to to a learning center. That is going to make that child's unmotivated day even more unmotivated.
So - what can we do to bring back motivation for the student? We've tried playing games, making bargains with the student, giving extra incentives, juggling, telling jokes , almost everything including standing on our heads. Most of these tactics illicit a quick 3 second smile but that goes away quickly. So - we now have another trick up our sleeves.
It's a GOAL SHEET!
We discuss the use of the Goal Sheet with the parent ahead of time. The Goal Sheet has 3 lines of goals on it.
- How many PKs will be done today?
- How many WOBs will be done today?
- Last Punch of the Day check.
No rewards or shopping until all the goals are met for the day.
There is a spot for Instructor Signature and a spot for Student Signature. It is discussed with the student and agreed upon. Students know there is a consequence for not completing their work. .
Seems to work.. Let's hope it continues.
