A Student Success Story, a Growing Mathnasium Family, and Fall in Eagan

By Ramya Padmanabhan, Center Director | Mathnasium of Eagan

There's something special happening at Mathnasium of Eagan this fall, and I couldn't be more excited to share it.

Between students reaching exciting milestones, Bring-a-Friend Week, and all the conversations we're having with families about parent-teacher conferences, October has been a busy month!

But what makes me especially proud is how much our Mathnasium family has grown.

Over the past year, Mathnasium of Eagan has experienced the largest increase in enrolled families of any of our Mathnasium centers in Minnesota.

That's something our entire team is incredibly proud of.

But to me, the most meaningful part isn't the number. It's knowing that more families in our community are trusting us to help their children become stronger, more confident math students.

And that's a responsibility we take seriously.

Meet the Team Behind Our Growing Eagan Family

I couldn't do what I do without the people working alongside me every day.

Our Assistant Center Directors, Spoorthy and Andrew, are an important part of what makes our center special. Together with our instructors, they help create an environment where students feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to keep growing.

As our center has grown, so has the number of students and families we get to know.

And that's one of my favorite things about this job.

We get to celebrate the big milestones, like improved test scores and report cards, but we also get to see the smaller victories.

A student finally understanding fractions. Someone raising their hand with confidence. A child walking through our doors excited to tell us how they did on a math test.

Those moments matter.

And they're what make our Mathnasium of Eagan team so proud of the work we do.

From Below Grade Level to Meeting Standards!

I want to share a student success story that really made my month.

One of our students came to Mathnasium performing below grade level in math.

Like many students who struggle, she needed some additional support to strengthen skills that hadn't fully clicked yet.

So we started where she was.

We worked on building her foundational math skills, helping her understand concepts, and giving her opportunities to experience success along the way.

And she kept showing up and putting in the work.

Recently, she received her state test results.

She had officially "Met Standards" in math!

I can't tell you how proud we are of her.

Of course, we're excited about the test score. But what makes this story so meaningful is what it represents.

This student went from struggling below grade level to reaching an important academic milestone.

She earned that accomplishment through her own hard work and determination, and we're grateful we got to be part of her journey.

These are the moments that remind us why we love what we do.

Bring-a-Friend Week at Mathnasium of Eagan!

We're also celebrating Bring-a-Friend Week this October!

One of the things I love about our center is watching students get excited to share their Mathnasium experience with friends.

It's a chance for kids to bring someone along, have some fun with math, and show them what our center is all about.

As our Mathnasium family continues to grow, we're especially grateful for the families who share their experiences with friends and neighbors.

There's no better compliment than a parent trusting us enough to recommend us to another family.

Parent-Teacher Conferences in Eagan: Three Questions Worth Asking

With fall parent-teacher conferences happening throughout Eagan and the surrounding school districts, I've been talking with families about how to make the most of those conversations.

My biggest piece of advice?

Be specific.

Instead of simply asking, "How is my child doing in math?" try asking questions that help you understand exactly where your child is succeeding and where they might need extra support.

Here are three questions I recommend.

1. Which specific math skills does my child need to strengthen?

Ask about multiplication, fractions, decimals, word problems, or whatever concepts your child is currently learning.

Sometimes a student is doing well in one area but struggling in another.

2. Are there any gaps from previous grade levels?

This is a big one!

Math builds on itself. If a student never fully understood an earlier concept, new material can become much more challenging.

Identifying those gaps early gives you a chance to address them before they grow.

3. What can we do to help at home?

Ask the teacher which skills would benefit from additional practice and whether your child seems confident working independently.

And if your child's parent-teacher conference brings up some concerns, don't be discouraged.

It doesn't mean your child isn't capable of succeeding in math.

It just means we have a better idea of where to start.

Why Are Word Problems So Difficult for Kids?

If there's one math challenge I hear about frequently from parents, it's word problems.

And I understand why!

A student might know how to add, subtract, multiply, or divide, but when those same skills are buried inside a paragraph, suddenly everything feels more complicated.

The challenge isn't always the calculation.

Sometimes it's understanding what the question is asking in the first place.

At Mathnasium of Eagan, we help students slow down, identify important information, and break problems into manageable steps.

We want them to understand not just how to solve a problem, but why they're solving it that way.

That's a big part of the Mathnasium Method.

We create personalized math learning plans that meet students where they are, whether they need elementary math tutoring, middle school math support, or enrichment to keep them challenged.

Our goal is to build strong foundational skills and help students develop the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.

Because when students understand math, they start to see themselves differently.

Growing Alongside the Eagan Community

One of the things we're especially grateful for is the support we've received from the Eagan community.

As our center has grown over the past year, we've had the opportunity to welcome more local families and build new relationships.

We're also excited about our partnership with Anytime Fitness in Eagan!

We love connecting with other local businesses that care about the community and finding opportunities to support one another.

Whether it's through local partnerships, family referrals, or simply getting to know the people in our neighborhood, we want Mathnasium of Eagan to be a positive part of this community for years to come.
