One of our kids recently ran into some "big" number multiplication problems and they wanted to continue to do their math in their head. Let me say that again ...
"Continue to do their math ... in their head"!!!
What a huge leap from where we started, which is to say they had trouble even adding and subtracting on paper.
So we happily talked about how to multiply 47 by 8 in our heads. Try to do this with your kids to add to their mental math skills ...
47 x 8 = ___
IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS:
40, counted 8 times or 320
PLUS
7, counted 8 times or 56
FINALLY
320 + 56 or 376
The twinkle in the eye was all I needed to go into the rest of the weekend strong. We're going to continue to do math in our heads too!
