Ilan has spent his entire career in education, teaching multiple grades, and prior to Mathnasium had most recently been serving as the Director of General Studies at a parochial school for 13 years. In that capacity, Ilan was responsible for the supervision of staff and students, professional development, curricular development, and academic performance, among other responsibilities. Concurrently, Ilan had served as assistant director of a local summer camp for 17 years. Ilan holds a Master's degree in Education Administration and Supervision from Loyola University, Chicago. Ilan is the proud father of five children, three of whom attend Mathnasium! When not at Mathnasium, Ilan can often be found running in preparation for a marathon or some other race, usually for charity. Ilan is a Boston Qualifier, and Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Championships qualifier! As passionate as Ilan is about running, he is more passionate about education, and about math education and critical thinking in particular. For Ilan, Mathnasium is the perfect blend of formal and informal learning, and he loves being a part of the Mathnasium team!
Matt Weidman joins Mathnasium with sixteen years of experience as an educator.
Matt served as a classroom teacher for junior high school and high schools for six years focusing on Tier Two and Three Interventions and challenging advanced learners. Matt also worked as an Instructional Coach for six years supporting teachers through observations and co-teaching based on the MCMI model. In addition, Matt brings four years of experience as a Curriculum Coordinator where he assisted school districts with improving their vertical alignment, identifying and implementing areas of refinement for high school placement procedures, and facilitating advanced placement opportunities for students as early as second grade.
Matt has a BA from Michigan State University in Business and two Masters degrees from National-Louis University in Education (including one in Administration and Supervision).
Matt lives in Glenview with his wife Melissa, son Alexander, daughter Claire, and dog Macy.
Darcy holds a bachelor's degree from American University in Washington DC in Mathematics and a minor in Chinese language. She is currently pursuing a masters of art in teaching and a professional educator's license to teach high school math at Northeastern Illinois University. Since she was very young, Darcy has always enjoyed math and would like others to have a similar experience. In her free time, Darcy enjoys knitting and crocheting, downhill skiing, tossing a frisbee, exercising, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite knitting projects include socks, hats, and sweaters.
Phillip is currently a senior at Northwestern University, majoring in Cello Performance and European History and minoring in Musicology. Before music and history, Phillip planned on becoming an Aerospace Engineer, leading to a natural curiosity and love for math, especially when utilized in physics. He has over eight years of teaching experience, ranging from his time as an after-school teacher in the Highland Park School District to private cello instruction. In his free time, Phillip likes to explore his other interests, including sketching, photography, and gardening.
Hannan was born and raised in Chicago and attended Lane Tech High School where he was a part of their STEM program. Hannan has had a great passion for mathematics since he was a little kid, which has carried all the way until now as he pursues a Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Michigan. Hannan enjoys all his wonderful students here at Mathnasim, and he looks forward to seeing all of them grow into great mathematicians.
