Amaechi “Mr. O” Onyeali has led Mathnasium of Evergreen Park for over 12 years. A former CPS educator with 19 years of experience, he’s served as a math coach, middle school coordinator, and K–8 teacher. He holds degrees in Marketing, Urban Education, and Educational Leadership.
Mr. O is a two-time Teacher of the Year award winner and is deeply committed to helping students on the South Side build math confidence. He and his wife Christena have two children, who were the center’s very first students.
Alicia earned her B.A. in Mathematics from Northwestern University, where she studied probability, statistics, linear algebra, and multivariable calculus. After years of tutoring friends and family, she joined Mathnasium to bring her love of math into a formal teaching environment.
Alicia enjoys the lively energy of working with students and recently completed her MBA. She also works with government agencies helping educate members on retirement benefits, and brings a practical, real-world perspective to math instruction.
James holds a B.A. in Mathematics from DePaul University and an M.S. in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology. With over 30 years of experience in IT leadership, James now focuses on youth development and STEM education.
He mentors students through FIRST® Robotics and helps them explore future careers in math and tech. His mission at Mathnasium is to make math approachable, enjoyable, and a gateway to lifelong opportunities in science, technology, and beyond.
Mai is a recent graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago with a degree in Urban Education. During college, she discovered her love for teaching while tutoring elementary and middle school students.
Now an aspiring full-time educator, Mai is excited to help kids build confidence and succeed in math. At Mathnasium, she brings warmth and dedication to her students. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring Chicago, shopping, and spending time with friends, family, and her cat.
Jasmine is an Academic Advisor and math tutor with over 10 years of experience. She holds a B.S. in Actuarial Science from Central Michigan University and an M.Ed. from UIC. At Mathnasium, she brings her love for mentoring and education to every session.
Outside of work, Jasmine is active in the community, mentoring through Chicago Scholars and serving on the board of the It’s Okay Campaign, a nonprofit supporting young women of color. She’s also exploring real estate investment.
Grace Eason is the Assistant Center Director, who started off as a math tutor at our center years ago. She has a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Governors State University and a Masters in Mathematical Education from DePaul University. She started tutoring college math when she was only a junior in high school. Her tutoring career has surpassed 10 years and includes grades ranging from kindergarten all the way to college algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Grace has also worked as a math teacher in the Chicago Public School System for 3 years and transitioned into a Math Interventionist, where she helps students who struggle in mathematics. She loves mathematics, helping in general, and most importantly children.
Nick is a current college student studying Math and Computer Science at The University of Illinois at Chicago. He has always loved math since his elementary years and hopes to spread that love to students at Mathnasium. During his free time he is often gaming, out to eat, or doing some physical activity with his friends.
Leticia is a Hispanic woman from the Southside of Chicago. In the spring of 2023, she graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with her B.S. degree in Astrophysics. Currently, she is navigating her path toward her dream job, exploring various opportunities to discover her true passion. Leticia is proud to have the opportunity to represent the growing number of Hispanic women in STEM, an experience she did not have when she was a little girl. She emphasizes to students that Mathnasium is not a place for competition; it's about developing their skills at their own pace, which is much more valuable.
Veronica Thomas is a National Board Certified Teacher with over 15 years of experience. She received her bachelor's degree from The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in Elementary Education with a minor in Middle School Math. She received a Master's in Special Education from Chicago State University. Veronica has a passion for teaching and learning mathematics. She is committed to helping students learn in a way that makes sense to them and uses various strategies in her teaching approach. Veronica loves spending time with family and going to new places in her spare time.
Mackenzie is currently a sophomore at St. Ignatius College Prep. She’s in the Med Club at SICP and dreams of going to Boston College. Mackenzie has had a passion for math since she was 7 years old. Mackenzie is eager to learn and wants to spread her passion for math to the next generation. She also babysits and tutors for local families. Mackenzie is very open minded, and loves working with kids. She enjoys spending time with her friends/family and having a nice dinner downtown. Mackenzie is an avid Bulls fan and loves cats. --
