My name is Gary McKenney, and I am proud to serve as the Owner and Center Director of Mathnasium of Flowery Branch. Our family moved from Atlanta to Gainesville in 2021 so our children could attend the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus, and we quickly fell in love with this community. It has been incredibly rewarding to build a center dedicated to helping local students grow in confidence and succeed in math.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Georgia and spent many years as a software engineer and engineering manager, leading both domestic and international development teams. Throughout my career, I worked on complex software systems in industries including aviation, satellite broadcasting, medical technology, and credit processing. Those experiences reinforced something I have always believed: strong math and problem-solving skills open doors to opportunities in every field.
My journey to Mathnasium began through my daughter, who worked as a Mathnasium instructor. She would often come home sharing stories about students who had struggled with math but suddenly experienced a breakthrough—the moment when frustration turned into excitement and confidence. Seeing how deeply Mathnasium impacted students inspired me to become part of that mission.
At Mathnasium of Flowery Branch, we strive to create a welcoming and encouraging environment where students not only improve their math skills but also develop confidence, resilience, and a belief in their own potential. We know that every child learns differently, which is why we create personalized learning plans designed to meet students exactly where they are and help them achieve meaningful progress.
One of the most rewarding parts of serving this community has been partnering with local schools, teachers, and families through Math Nights, STEM events, and educational outreach programs. We are passionate about making math approachable, engaging, and even fun for students of all ages.
There is nothing better than watching a student walk through our doors feeling unsure of themselves and later seeing them leave with confidence, excitement, and the realization that they truly can succeed in math.

Hi, my name is Abigail! I’m currently a senior in high school who enjoys challenges that push me to think both critically and creatively. I especially enjoy math because it teaches problem-solving with multiple approaches and perspectives, whilst building confidence. Whether I’m collaborating through math or in a community, I thrive in environments that encourage growth and curiosity.
Outside of math, I’m passionate about art, science, and design, and I’m particularly interested in the architecture field for my future major. Things I enjoy consist of anything that involves family, friends, and something active and fun!
I am a senior at Buford High School, and I’m an incoming Mathematics major starting my freshman year of college this August.

My all-time favorite food is medium-rare steak paired with mashed potatoes & asparagus.
I’m looking forward to meeting you!
