Mathnasium of Gainesville tells us how they celebrate the success of their students

Q: How does Mathnasium celebrate its student's success?

A: We are always celebrating a student's progress and pay extra attention to their success. Each student's success is uniquely their own and we love to award high-fives and tickets they can redeem for physical rewards. Praise is a huge part of boosting a student's confidence so we give them a chance to hang their work on our brag board. This way, they can display their success for all of the students and instructors to see!

Q: Tell me about student’s reactions to having their work on the brag board.

A: When a student brings in their work from school, we instantly hang it up for everyone to see. They're normally so elated that they're jumping around and making sure to tell each instructor about their hard work. When their parents are waiting to pick them up, the student will run over and point out the display to their parents. Parents always smile big upon seeing how ecstatic their child is, and the boost in confidence they feel at doing well in math.

Q: What kind of work gets put up?

A: Anything math-related a student is proud of can go on the brag board! Of course, getting an A+ in math, on a report card is amazing to see on the brag board, but success for a student depends on the individual. If a student who has always failed at math now gets a C on a test, that is just as celebrated as the A+. When a student has physical proof of their hard work, we post it to our brag board.

Q: Do you have a favorite memory of the Brag Board?

A: One of our students did an amazing job in math, to the point that the school awarded her a math award for being one of the best mathematicians in school! The student, name not included for privacy, worked hard while attending Mathnasium sessions. After working with us through early algebra topics, her math understanding blossomed. We were always proud of the work she accomplished, but it was even more amazing to see the confidence boost when she recieved the math award from her school.
