Reynold Torrence
Center Director
My name is Reynold Torrence, and I am the Center Director of Mathnasium of Gaithersburg. I am honored to serve the students and families of this community. My love for mathematics began with my 3rd-grade teacher, Mr. Simmons, who showed me that numbers and fun can go hand in hand. His lessons sparked my passion for math and a lifelong love of learning, values that still inspire me today.
I bring more than a decade of experience in leadership, development, and mentorship. At Mathnasium, I strive to create an engaging and supportive environment where students feel confident and excited to learn. My goal is to help every child grow their math skills while discovering that learning can be meaningful and enjoyable. Outside of Mathnasium, I am passionate about gaming, whether video games or tabletop. This passion inspired me to start a nonprofit that creates inclusive spaces for children and adults with special needs to connect, play, and build friendships through gaming. It is deeply rewarding to see how shared play can foster confidence, community, and joy.
As your Center Director, I will do my best to ensure every student experiences the excitement and growth that come from mastering math in a fun and welcoming space.
Whether they would like to attend sessions in-center or online, students can take 3 easy steps to enroll at Mathnasium.

Mathnasium of Gaithersburg prepares students for quizzes, midterms, and final exams with consistent, mastery-based learning. Instead of last-minute preparation, we focus on building deep understanding session by session so students are ready when it counts.
Each student starts with a diagnostic assessment so our specially trained tutors can identify knowledge gaps and create a personalized learning plan. From there, we reinforce classroom concepts, address foundational gaps, and develop the problem-solving confidence students need across all K-12 math subjects.
When an important exam is on the horizon, instruction can be aligned with the specific content students will be tested on.
Yes! Mathnasium of Gaithersburg prepares students for the math portions of the MCAP.
Our tutors align instruction with the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards (MCCRS) for Mathematics to ensure students have a solid grasp of the grade-level concepts they'll encounter on the exam. We identify each student's knowledge gaps through a diagnostic assessment and build a personalized learning plan that targets the skills they need to meet grade-level expectations.
The earlier, the better. The MCAP is designed to measure cumulative math understanding, so students benefit most from consistent, ongoing support rather than last-minute preparation.
Ideally, students should begin working with us at the start of the school year or semester. This gives us time to identify and address any knowledge gaps, build foundational skills, and ensure students are progressing steadily toward grade-level mastery well before test day.
That said, if your student is closer to the exam, we can still make a meaningful difference. Contact us and we'll create a focused plan based on the time available.
Yes! At Mathnasium of Gaithersburg, we help high school students prepare for the math portions of the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT®.
Our specially trained tutors use proprietary test prep materials and personalized learning plans to build the content knowledge and problem-solving strategies students need to perform their best on test day. Whether your student is taking the exam for the first time or looking to improve their score, we tailor preparation to their current skill level and target goals.
We recommend starting at least three to six months before the exam date, and earlier is always better.
College admissions math tests cover a wide range of topics, from algebra and data analysis to geometry and, on the ACT®, trigonometry. Students who begin preparation early have time to identify and close knowledge gaps, build fluency with exam-style problems, and develop the confidence that comes from sustained practice.
For students with significant gaps in foundational math skills, starting even earlier, in middle school or early high school, gives them the strongest possible foundation heading into test prep. If your student's test date is approaching sooner, contact us and we'll build a focused plan around the time they have.
Mathnasium of Gaithersburg offers math test prep as part of a flat monthly membership fee. Pricing depends on your student's individual plan and session schedule.
For specific pricing information, please contact our center directly, we're happy to walk you through the options and find a plan that fits your student's goals and your family's needs.
The number of sessions depends on your student's current skill level, the exam they're preparing for, and how much time is available before test day.
As a general guide, most students preparing for a major exam such as the SAT®, PSAT®, or ACT® attend two sessions per week over three to six months. For state assessments or classroom exams, the timeline may be shorter, depending on the student's starting point and goals.
After the diagnostic assessment, we'll have a clear picture of what your student needs and can recommend a session schedule that gives them the best chance of success.
