With many school around the world closed due to covid-19 and summer inching closer, the knowledge your child worked hard for is in danger of slipping away. This is especially alarming for math, a subject that builds upon itself as students advance in classes. The gaps formed from learning loss can have long-lasting effects in your child's math classes.
Teachers agree. If you ask them about the skill level of their students at the begginning of the year, they’ll likely tell you that students aren’t ready to pick up where they left off.
By taking steps to avoid learning loss, your child will be ready to learn new material instead of falling behind when a new school year begins.
How to combat learning loss
Parents can help children combat learning loss by finding active and engaging ways to practice math at home during your daily lives. This practice doesn't have to be replacing every single hour they would have spent in school. It is the engagement that drives learning, not the total amount of hours spent. Having your child help with cooking measurements, work with money when going shopping, and playing math-based games are good ways of keeping them engaged. Activities such as these provide opportunities to explore concepts that school might not cover, and they will continue to benefit your child in the future.
How Mathnasium can help you
Here at Mathnasium of Garden Grove we focus on engagement. Our summer program specializes in creative, effective, stress-free ways to teach math to your child based on their unique needs.
In-depth assessment
Our students first start by taking a customized assessment which pinpoints their needs, allowing us to meet them where they are and to take them where they need to go. These assessments help us craft unique learning plans that avoid wasting time reteaching already mastered concepts.
When math is tailored for individuals and not a classroom, students make great strides and begin to enjoy learning.
Innovative Curriculum
Skip all of the math drills! They build cramps in students hands faster than they build understanding of math. It also isn't the best way to keep kids motivated and interested in math either. Instead, we focus on providing our students with a fun and interesting math program that challenges them to think critially and understand the underlying concepts behind what they are doing.
Understanding Instructors
We are proud of our instructors and they are the best of the best when it comes to making math fun and understanding! Our rigourous hiring and training process ensures that each student gets the best math instruction they can get.
Our instructors work one-to-one with your student and ensures that they get the attention and guidance they need to succeed. In addition, they are well versed in mathematics and are ready to help your student with any schoolwork/homework that they need assistance with.
