It’s that time of year again. The trimester is over (or the semester is nearly halfway through), and your student is coming home with a report card or a progress report. Perhaps they haven’t had the perfect start to the year between homework and tests and quizzes. Of course, you’re hoping for the best--every parent wants their child to succeed, after all, and you know what kinds of great things they’re capable of! You might not know exactly what to expect, but you definitely need a status report. So when you finally see each other, you open up their report card, and…!
Whatever comes after that moment, Mathnasium is here to help! We work with students wherever they are in their studies to make sure they can achieve their goals and live up to their fullest potential. We believe they can change the world!
We also know that different students have different needs, and our customized learning programs and small group instruction are perfect for making sure your student gets everything they need to truly succeed!
Whether your student’s grades are worse than you’d hope, right on track, or well ahead of the curve, read on to find out how Mathnasium will help them to soar!
For Struggling Students:
When students fall behind at the beginning of the year, catching up can be twice as difficult--if not more! Like all students, they’re responsible for keeping up with the class as it moves forward. But on top of this, they need to learn the past content they missed or misunderstood, and they can’t move forward until they do! Imagine, for example, trying to learn about fractions without understanding multiplication. It’s like trying to learn math in a different language!
From the student’s perspective, this can feel impossible, and it can be harmful for both their confidence and interest in learning. With such a hard task at hand, many students just choose to give up!
At Mathnasium, we bridge this gap by addressing foundational math topics at the same time as homework and tests. Every student starts their program by taking a Mathnasium assessment that helps us to identify the exact skills they need to develop to get on track! Instead of trying to minimize the symptoms, we take the steps necessary to treat the problem at its source.
Not only does this serve our students better in the short term, but over the long term, making sure students understand math deeply sets them up for future success!
Once we have a learning plan in place, our expert instructors bring the whole picture together. Students learn in a small group environment designed to give them the perfect blend of direct attention and independent practice, preparing them to work well in the classroom. Our instructors are carefully trained to identify and utilize the best style of learning for each student, and it works wonders! Where students struggle in the classroom, they thrive at Mathnasium.
Working with the right content, in the right way, and in the right environment, our students’ entire outlook on math changes! Not only do their grades and skills improve, but their attitude about math goes from doom and gloom to genuine excitement. We’ve seen it happen again and again, and we would be honored to do the same with your student!
If you’re concerned about your student’s progress in school, don’t wait to let the problems get worse! We would love to help you find the best path for your student’s success.

For On-Track Students:
For many on-track students, success is a precarious thing. While they may be succeeding for the time being, falling behind might only be a lesson or two away! And since the term is drawing to a close, they may not have time to recover.
To the observing eye, however, the problem is deeper than that. Students who are just staying on track tend to only learn their math at a skin-deep level instead of really understanding how and why it works. In the short-term, and especially for younger students, this can work just fine.
But as their math courses become more difficult and their abilities stay the same, small things--like finger-counting, or a few tough multiplication facts, or some misunderstandings about fractions--become big problems! When everything starts coming together, students can suddenly find themselves overwhelmed. It’s at times like these when families tend to come to us--and we’re so excited that they do!
Because thankfully, the reverse is also true. By digging a little deeper each week, on-track students have the opportunity to pull ahead of the crowd! Where they were just learning enough to get by before, now they can truly excel, and our personalized assessment process is the perfect way to get there.
Instead of going through a workbook or plodding through drills and worksheets, we nail down the exact concepts students are struggling with for maximum efficiency! And there’s no better environment than working face-to-face with an expert instructor.
We find that many students who are performing at or just below grade level only need a few nudges in the right direction, or need deep instruction on just a few key concepts. Once we’ve repaired those gaps in their knowledge, they are ready to excel--and they do! With success story after success story under our belt, we’re confident that we’ll be able to help your student not just to catch up, but to get ahead!
If you’d like to find out more about our programs, a free assessment is the perfect way to do it! During the assessment, we’ll pinpoint the concepts your student needs the most help with and you’ll get to see the Mathnasium method in action. There’s no commitment required, and even if you don’t sign up, the resources you’ll leave with are priceless!

For Advanced Students:
We love working with our advanced students! For many of them, Mathnasium is a welcome change from the pace of their classroom. For perhaps the first time in their lives, they get to encounter a genuine challenge--and Mathnasium’s enrichment curriculum is the perfect tool for the job!
Instead of putting them through a workbook or textbook that will only keep them in the same monotonous rhythm they’re used to, we get to dive deep into exciting, advanced concepts. This helps them get even further ahead, and more importantly, it keeps them engaged with math!
Advanced students have lots of flexibility in how to do that. The most straightforward option is learning material from next year’s studies; some of our students have even skipped entire courses to get ahead! Our comprehensive curriculum allows us to explore advanced content without sacrificing quality, and our expert instructional staff (trained to teach through the calculus level) ensures that students learn the material deeply. It’s the perfect way to get ahead for students who are ready for the challenge!
Other advanced students are more interested in digging deep into what they already know, and we’ve got the materials for that, too! Mathnasium’s enrichment curriculum is designed to help students explore what they already know at a deeper level. Sometimes that looks like applying their current knowledge to critical thinking and problem solving, and other times it looks like exploring the “why” behind how math works.
This is especially important for advanced students because oftentimes, they learn how to answer questions without having any idea about how to apply those skills elsewhere. Learning to think critically about the work they do is absolutely key in their continued success! Especially as they move into more advanced courses, they will be expected to be fluent in the art of solving problems.
To prepare them for that difficult work, we develop their abilities to interpret information from word problems, create equations to effectively solve problems, and think critically about how best to approach and finish their work. The result is a command of mathematics and critical thinking that prepares them to handle any kind of problem that comes their way, whether in math or otherwise!
We know that the best thinkers make the best mathematicians, and providing the direction and tools to get our students there is what we do best!
If you are interested in helping your student to become a truly excellent thinker, ready to solve problems and master their coursework, we would love to have you in for a free assessment! The assessment is a perfect time to see exactly where your students strengths and weaknesses are. It’s also a great opportunity to see how the center works!
