Annie is a current high school senior at BASIS and has taken advanced math classes throughout middle school and high school, including AP Calculus AB & BC, as well as AP Statistics. She loves to teach younger kids, so finds Mathnasium to be a good fit for her. At her school, she has been a peer tutor and a teaching assistant, giving her many opportunities to work with kids both her age and younger. Fav Math Joke: 4. What did the triangle say to the other triangle? You're a-cute! Fun Facts: She has a younger sister! Some of her personal interests include listening to new music (my current favorite artist is Laufey), taking dance classes around AZ, and reading as many books as possible. She has never tried birthday cake - she's allergic to eggs. She can wiggle her ears!
Connor is a senior at Basha High School and holds a deep passion for math, having tackled everything from Pre-algebra to differential equations. He's excited about the prospect of sharing his enthusiasm for mathematics as an instructor at Mathnasium. Fav Math Joke: What do you call a recycled calculus pun? Derivative humor! Fun Facts: Outside the classroom, he's an avid runner who enjoys both cross country and track. In his downtime, I enjoys making his own clothes, playing guitar, and spending time with his three dogs!
Conner holds a Bachelor's Degree in Statistics with a minor in Mathematics from BYU. He enjoys being an instructor at Mathnasium because he enjoys math and believes that anyone can succeed at it if given enough time, patience, and attention. One time, he entered a contest in college to put slogans on buttons for Math-related majors. He entered the slogan "I am a Math major. This button is my proof." and won. (Proofs are how mathematicians prove that a given math fact is true.) Fun facts: He has four older sisters, a twin brother, and 19 nieces and nephews! He enjoys reading and playing games. He has hiked across the Grand Canyon from rim to rim.
Jonah has completed math courses through to calculus III at Mesa Community college and has an Associate's degree in Science. He has always loved math as a subject and has enjoyed helping classmates with math in the past, so Mathnasium is more of what he loves! Fav Math Joke: The minus sign was talking to the positive sign. The minus sign asked, “Are you sure I make a difference?” and the other sign said “I’m positive!” Fun Facts: He's a geek. He plays dungeons and dragons and enjoys cartoons. His favorites are Scooby-Doo and Avatar the Last Airbender.
Joshua a Sophomore at ASU looking to get a B.S. in Psychology. He tries to maintain knowledge in as many academic fields as he can, including kinetic physics, electrodynamics and magnetics, epistemic philosophy, historical tactics, emerging technology and the philosophical and practical issues they bring up, linguistics, advanced mathematics, and sociology. He loves to learn and wants to understand everything he can, and he wants to help other people do the same as well. He believes everyone should have the opportunity, and does have the capacity, to understand mathematics and the underlying principles and systems therein, and so he really cares about helping Mathnasium students learn not just how to solve a problem, but why it matters and why their solutions work out correctly. Fun Facts: He loves strategy games: from StarCraft to chess -he simply loves thinking through complex problems with many viable solutions to try to find the best way to a decisive victory. He has spent over a thousand hours doing partner dancing since he started high school, and his favorite dances are the Silver American Waltz and the Nightclub 2-Step.
Michael is a senior at Perry High School and is one credit shy of his associates degree from Chandler-Gilbert community college! He loves helping people and making an impact in peoples lives. Mathnasium’s program allows him to do just that and impart valuable skills to all Mathnasium attendees. Fav Math Joke: Why was six afraid of seven? Because seven eight nine! Fun Facts: Michael is a twin, a member of the Perry High School swim team, and has been doing woodworking for 2 years. He has been to Germany, France, and Spain and as a souvenir, he bought a cuckoo clock!
Sandro is very grateful to have had many opportunities to work with kids throughout his life. He started tutoring as early as elementary school, where he helped kindergarteners work on phonics and spelling skills. Additionally, he was a member of a tutoring program in his middle school that helped students with organization and planning to prepare them to succeed at a college preparatory. Since 2021, he has been the co-president of the Education Professions program at his high school, where aspiring teachers visit other schools to learn how to be better educators. He has spent a year with a group of gifted fourth graders, where he has observed and taught lessons. His continued experience in teaching has solidified his passion for education. That is why he is so excited to be an instructor at Mathnasium; guiding students towards progress and success fills his heart. He is highly proficient in mathematics; he scored in the 97th percentile on the math portion of the ACT. His other passion besides education is film and literature. He adores storytelling. There is something very human about telling a story to someone else. He believes telling a story is one of the best ways to express oneself. Fav Math Joke: "Why was six scared of seven? -- Seven eight nine!" Fun facts: He will be studying secondary education in college. He plans to become a teacher and work in education administration down the road. His favorite piece of literature is "Anthem" by Ayn Rand. His favorite food is sushi; nothing beats it. He has a beautiful parrot named Pico - almost ten years old.
Samihah is currently a senior in high school. The reason she is passionate about being an instructor at Mathnasium is that she knows how important math is in everyday life. Even the simplest things like baking cookies require math. Fav Math Joke: She has dealt with a lot of math in her life but to be honest, she does not know that many math jokes, so she'll tell you all the only one she can remember: Why are circles so smart? Because they have 360 degrees! Fun Fact: She loves to do henna, which is a Middle-Eastern/South Asian practice where we “paint” a design on ourselves (usually our hands and arms) that stains our skin for about a week or so!
