Q: In your column about competitive youth sports, you wrote that far more money is available for college academic scholarships than for athletic scholarships. Could you provide more information and the source?

 

A: (Excerpt) Athletic scholarships are slightly larger on average, at $7,855 a year, compared with $5.731 for academic awards from colleges and universities, says Mr. Kantrowitz, who also publishes fastweb.com, a scholarship-matching service.
