Calling all math enthusiasts! Mathnasium of Greenville Five Forks is thrilled to be an official Math Kangaroo Testing Center for the 2025 Math Kangaroo Competition. Whether your child loves math or wants to improve their skills, this international competition is a fantastic opportunity to shine and have fun with math.

About Math Kangaroo

Math Kangaroo is an annual international math competition for students in grades 1 through 12. With a mission to promote math among students, Math Kangaroo challenges participants with word and logic problems that build critical thinking skills and confidence. The contest has grown rapidly since it first started in Australia in 1980 and came to the U.S. in 1998. Over 38,000 students participated in 2024, and 2025 promises to be even bigger!

About the Test

The Math Kangaroo test is a 75-minute multiple-choice exam, designed by the International Math Kangaroo Committee. Each grade level competes with questions appropriate for their age, with increasing difficulty as the test progresses. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Grades 1-4: 24 questions
  • Grades 5-12: 30 questions
  • Subjects: Primarily Algebra and Geometry, with limited questions on Probability and Number Theory.

Students tackle three sections of questions, each increasing in difficulty. Scores are based on the points awarded per question type (3, 4, or 5 points), with no penalties for wrong answers.

All participants receive a certificate of participation, mathematical gift and participation ribbon, in addition, top scorers are eligible for prestigious awards and prizes:

  • Medals: Gold, Silver, and Bronze for top national performers.

  • Additional Prizes: Books, gift cards, scholarships, and a chance to attend an international summer camp in Europe!

Prep for Test:

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before the assigned competition start time.
  • During the check you will receive a competition booklet and this answer sheet. The ID number, name, and level are printed there already.
  • Calculators or smartphones are NOT allowed during the test.
  • Scratch paper will be provided to you by a proctor.
  • Pencils may be provided.
  • After the test you must turn in the answer sheet and test booklet to the proctor.
  • There is no make-up test.
  • During the competition photos will be taken and might be used on Math Kangaroo & Mathnasium pages. Make sure you indicate during the registration if you do not wish to be photographed.
  • Math Kangaroo will post the answer key to the test one month and one day after the official competition date. Math Kangaroo will announce winners and the results on May 1.
