Stephanie Dayana Crocker Baez-Mendez

Lead Instructor

Stephanie knows firsthand what it means to struggle with math—and overcome it. Nearly not graduating high school due to math, she later earned a Bachelor's in Mathematics and taught grades 9–12 in Tucson, AZ before pursuing a Master’s in Data Analytics in Connecticut.

Her journey fuels her passion for helping students break through learning roadblocks and experience their own “Aha” moments. Stephanie is committed to showing students that with the right support, anyone can grow to understand and love math.

Nancy Stone

Instructor

Nancy brings over a decade of teaching experience from a private school in Boston, where she taught Math and Art History to students in grades 3–9. Now in Greenwich to be near her children, Nancy blends her experience as both a parent and educator to support students at Mathnasium.

She loves identifying each student’s unique learning style and creating custom learning plans. Her favorite moments are the “Ah-ha!” breakthroughs—when a concept clicks and students gain new confidence. For Nancy, helping students connect abstract math to real-world ideas is a joy that keeps her inspired every day.

Ben Varghese

Instructor
Hi, my name is Ben Varghese, and I have been a math lover since middle school. Mathnasium has allowed me to help students ignite a passion for math, for which I am very grateful. It has also shown me how much I enjoy teaching others. My favorite part of Mathnasium is that we are able to make learning something enjoyable, something that I think everyone should be able to experience. Growing understanding and changing the way kids think of math is my goal, and I am so lucky that I have been given the opportunity to do it here at Mathnasium.

Ethan Cooper

Instructor
Hello, I'm Ethan! I love singing, politics, and math, and have always enjoyed sharing these passions with my community. I have been teaching math to other students both in person and online for over two years, and I came to Mathnasium to give even more students the opportunity to learn and grow. I enjoy meeting the diverse array of learners this center gives me the chance to work with, and making math not only easier but also more interesting and fun for every student that comes through the door.

Isha Bharti

Instructor
Hi, my name is Isha Bharti. My deep-seated passion for math has driven me to share this enthusiasm with others. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed tutoring my younger sister and neighborhood kids, which has honed my ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable way. My approach is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each student's unique learning style. I am excited to work at Mathnasium and have the opportunity to share my love of math with others. Outside of school, I enjoy competitive rock climbing due to its problem-solving nature. Much like math, climbing often presents multiple ways to reach the solution.

Mark Minio

Instructor

Hi, my name is Mark! I graduated from Iona University with a Bachelor's in Mathematics, and a particular area of interest in Game Theory. I have always found math to be engaging, and I strongly believe that skill in math is a result of practice and patience. It is my hope that I will be able to share my passion for math with students, and help them see how compelling the subject really can be.

Matilda Fu

Instructor

Hi, I'm Matilda, and I use any pronouns. I have a passion for hiking, reading, and math. I majored in philosophy in college, and for the past three summers, I’ve tutored children aged 8-17 in subjects like writing, math, history, and piano. I joined Mathnasium because I truly miss teaching and working with kids. Helping children not only understand but also enjoy math brings me a deep sense of fulfillment. I can relate to the struggles some students face—back in high school, I had a hard time with math myself and didn’t have a tutor. Through trial and error, though, I figured it out and discovered strategies that worked for me. From my teaching experience, I’m confident that with the right approach, any child can master any subject.

Marcus Throop

Instructor

Hi, my name is Marcus! Math has always been my favorite subject, and I enjoy teaching it just as much. Next year, I will be continuing my studies at Boston University. My favorite sports are football and tennis, and I enjoy listening to music a lot. I love working with students through challenging problems and showing them that they can do something they had previously thought was impossible. I never give up on any students and encourage looking at problems in different ways if one doesn’t work. I believe I can help any student grow and become a stronger mathlete after working with us!

Miki Tanahashi

Instructor

Hi everyone! My name is Miki (pronounced like Mickey Mouse °o°) and I use she/her pronouns. This is my 5th year in education and 4th year supporting students specifically in math. Most of my experience is as an elementary classroom teacher in Bridgeport, CT, and I have also served the Norwalk community and New Haven community in non-traditional educator roles. These experiences have fostered a passion in education, particularly math learning in the US! As someone who struggled in the subject area as a child, I'm motivated to make math feel accessible, relatable and easy to understand. My hope is that kids gain as many tools in their educational toolkit as possible so they have endless opportunities presented to them as they grow older.

Michael Nogaki

Instructor

Hey, I’m Michael! I enjoy playing basketball and football, producing music, and hiking. While my out-of-school schedule may seem full, I am primarily an academic student, emphasizing grades and learning. This has been a trait of mine since I was young; I’ve always been a numbers guy. However, it wasn’t until the end of my Junior year of high school that I realized I also wanted to help others. Thus my decision to become a Mathnasium instructor! With a background in private tutoring, a camp counselor, and being the oldest of four, I wouldn’t consider myself inexperienced in helping younger kids. These experiences have given me the ability to share their determination and happiness when they understand what they learn and to empathize when they are confused, amongst other skills.

Vibhu Vajpayee

Instructor

My name is Vibhu Vajpayee, and my commitment to helping others grow and learn coupled with my excellence in math lead me to Mathnasium. I am passionate about making math engaging and digestible for students of all levels. Throughout high school, I taught a chess class which granted me the ability to break down complex concepts into simple steps, developing confidence and critical thinking skills with my students. In addition to my teaching experience, I have excelled in advanced math courses, developing a strong foundation in problem-solving and logical reasoning. At Mathnasium, I look forward to helping students build their skills, overcome challenges, and discover their potential.

Zoe Rieder

Instructor
Hi, my name is Zoe Rieder. Before I was an instructor, I was actually a student here at Mathnasium throughout elementary and middle school. Math was a subject I use to struggle with a lot. I found it hard, often too complicated. These days it's one of my favorite parts of my day, and I want to help students feel the same way! When I'm not doing math, I'm a massive fan of watching sports, movies, and musical theatre. I'm so excited to work here and help students the same way Mathnasium helped me!

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.
