Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Caleb

Instructor

Caleb is currently a marketing student at Portland State University. Graduating from Damascus Christian School as his class's valedictorian, he flew through every math course offered at his school, completing Calculus I as a mere junior. He uses math to navigate the digital marketing world, using analytics and metrics to maximize his reach and optimize his success.

Outside of the Center, he enjoys playing sports, hiking, creating faith-based content on social media, and getting involved in his beloved church community. Through these interests, he is able to motivate and build personal relationships with students who share them.

Jeff

Instructor

I taught for 41 years before retiring in 2020, including 31 years in elementary and middle schools and 10 years at Concordia University. I hold both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education and have had the opportunity to teach in Indiana, Washington, and Oregon.

I joined Mathnasium of Happy Valley in 2020 and love helping students strengthen their math skills while building confidence in themselves. Seeing students grow and experience those “aha!” moments is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

Outside of Mathnasium, I enjoy gardening, hiking, and officiating high school basketball games with my wife, Marilyn.

Ethan

Instructor

I consider myself a mathematician, filmmaker, and musician. I’m relatively new to the Pacific Northwest, but Portland already feels like it has always been home.

I’m currently studying pure mathematics in college while also preparing to direct a science-fiction film that I wrote. Naturally, the film will feature plenty of mathematics woven into the plot.

When I’m not studying math, writing, or working on a film, you can usually find me playing guitar with my band, Moonshadows. And when it comes to music, I generally prefer to play it loud.

Addison

Instructor

I am a senior at Clackamas High School with a strong passion and drive for academics, particularly math! I am also an involved member of my school, participating in student council and multiple clubs.

At Mathnasium, I am able to do what I love most, helping others. Tutoring allows me to fulfill my passion of helping students feel confident in their math skills and cognitive abilities.

Outside of school and the Center, I enjoy being outdoors, staying active, doing arts & crafts, and spending time with my friends and family.

Ashley

Instructor

I am a senior at Adrienne C. Nelson High School with a strong passion for math and its applications in the sciences, especially physics and chemistry. I have been tutoring at Mathnasium since 2024 and earned scores of 1540 on the SAT and 36 on the ACT.

As a captain of the ANHS Speech and Debate team and president of the National Honor Society, I value thoughtful, thorough communication and enjoy helping others build confidence in their abilities.

Outside of Mathnasium, I practice taekwondo as a black belt and love spending time with my family and my three cats, Callie, Gracie, and Mittens.

Gavin

Instructor

I’m a dedicated math student with a 4.0 GPA and 9 AP courses completed, including advanced STEM subjects: Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc. I love helping students build confidence in their math skills, and I bring both strong content knowledge and a patient, encouraging teaching style. I’m excited to support learners at Mathnasium and help them grow through clear explanations and positive guidance.

Eric

Assistant Center Director

I hold a Master of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I’m a former classroom teacher with over 15 years of experience in education. I enjoy working with students of all ages and strive to create a “lightbulb moment” for someone every day.

When I’m not working with students, you can usually find me outdoors walking or hiking with my two dogs, Dibs and Smudge. I’m an avid runner, spending time with a local run club and training for Hyrox races. When I’m not outside, I also enjoy playing video games, board games, and D&D with old friends.
