Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Matt Karstens

Curriculum Coordinator

Matt earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mathematics from Sewanee and UTC after graduating from Baylor, and has been with Mathnasium since 2017. He oversees the learning plans for all students, making sure each plan balances filling knowledge gaps with keeping up with current coursework.

Outside the center, Matt invents games that illustrate math concepts, shares recreational math puzzles with colleagues, and writes. He is driven by the satisfaction of helping students who had given up on understanding math discover that they actually can.

Marybeth Guppy

Education Director

Marybeth holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Georgia Southern University and taught kindergarten and second grade before joining Mathnasium in 2020. She now trains and coaches all Mathnasium instructors, focusing on the skill that matters most: communicating math in a way that actually makes sense to students.

Marybeth knows that being good at math and being able to teach it are two very different things. Her greatest satisfaction comes from developing instructors who go on to discover a lasting love of teaching, many of whom pursue teaching careers of their own.

Savanna Adams

Instructor

Savanna holds a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and brings five years of tutoring experience at the collegiate and secondary level. She loves figuring out exactly how to make a concept click for each individual student and finds real satisfaction in watching them grow and gain confidence over time.

Savanna sees math as the blueprint that explains the natural world, and she takes pride in giving every student, regardless of where they start, a glimpse behind that curtain.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
