Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Jonathan Hamel

Owner
After graduating from St. Albans School, Jonathan earned his BA in Economics at Wake Forest University and his International MBA in a joint degree program between the University of South Carolina and the Wirtschaftuniversität Wien in Austria. With a background in economics and a career in finance spanning nearly 20 years, he knows the importance of building a strong foundation in math. As a runner and former lacrosse player, Jonathan was quickly drawn to the idea of developing math skills in much the same way that athletes train to perfect their physical abilities. Jonathan enjoys working with children and is currently a volunteer coach for his sons' lacrosse team.

Laura Hamel

Owner
Laura is excited to welcome children and parents to Mathnasium and help kids learn math in a way that makes sense to them! Currently raising three sons, Laura understands the high value families in our community place on education. Laura graduated from Wake Forest University with a BS in Business. After discovering Mathnasium and opening their first center in 2014, Laura and Jonathan knew they had found the perfect way to combine their passion for children and education.

Riss Mendizabal

My name is Riss Mendizabal! I was born in Matanzas, Cuba and grew up in Miami and graduated from Ransom Everglades. Education is something I have always been passionate about. As a former instructor for Breakthrough Miami, I know first hand the importance of a strong mathematical foundation in children's lives. In my off time, I enjoy cooking and spending time with my 7 year old lab, Lenny.

Dmitry Zubchuk

With a deep passion for teaching, I began my career as a Teacher Assistant in Elementary school, where I quickly discovered my dedication to helping students who face academic challenges. This led me to take on roles as a Special Education Services teacher, and later, work with EAL (English as an Additional Language) students and those with special needs. For over 10 years, my mission has been to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students. I believe that every child is unique, and each requires a personalized approach to learning. Whether it’s overcoming academic hurdles or building on strengths, I am committed to fostering an environment where every student can succeed. My goal is to empower students through education and create an atmosphere where they can grow, thrive, and achieve their full potential.

Natalya Stahl

Natalya hails from New Jersey and is a fervent believer in the power of a solid mathematical foundation. She went to the University of Oxford, where she earned an honors BA in Experimental Psychology and Philosophy (and a few concussions playing lacrosse), before coming back to the US to teach. She completed her Masters in Secondary Education at Arizona State University and spent three years as a middle school teacher in Scottsdale. With her experience helping New Jersey schools secure grants through Senate funding, working on mergers and acquisitions with JP Morgan in London, and even as a florist in Arizona, Natalya understands the various ways math is a vital part of life beyond school and is thrilled to be helping kids see and reach their potential each day!

Emily Locke

Emily grew up in New Hampshire and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Public and Community Service Studies from Providence College. Later, she pursued a Master's in Education at Johns Hopkins University. With five years of experience as an elementary school teacher and interventionist, Emily is deeply passionate about education and its transformative power. She is dedicated to supporting students through Mathnasium’s individualized approach, which builds their skills, confidence, and makes learning math enjoyable. Emily firmly believes that education is the key to unlocking opportunity and strives to make a lasting impact in the lives of students.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
